In Memoriam

On this day in 2003, the wrestling world lost one-time ECW Tag and Television Champion ‘Pitbull #2′ Anthony Durante aged just 36. Durante actually began his wrestling career in the WWF, competing as a jobber in the late 80s and early 90s, regularly teaming with fellow enhancement talent Gary Wolf. By the mid-90’s, the duo were one of ECW’s top tag teams, competing as The Pitbulls. Despite their status, they only held the ECW Tag Team Titles once, with Durante also holding the ECW Television Title in 1996. Durante left ECW in 1997 and began competing on the indies, primarily for Jersey All Pro, where he was the second JAPW Heavyweight Champion, only losing the title when he was forced to vacate it through injury. In late 1998, The Pitbulls worked a tryout match for the WWF, but were unsuccessful, after which Durante quietly left the wrestling business and took a job at a casino in Connecticut. Durante was found dead alongside his girlfriend after overdosing on fentanyl (a painkiller). To add further sorrow to the story, investigators believe that their two young children had been alone in the house with the bodies for a couple of days. Durante was honoured as a ‘fallen friend’ by former members of the ECW roster at both Hardcore Homecoming and One Night Stand in 2005.

Two Garvin mentions in one day! Feel like stomping a guy when he’s down then spraying him with perfume and to make him feel better.
