Monday Night Raw 9/17/12

Bridgeport, C T

CM Punk’s music hits to start the show but only Paul Heyman is making his way to the ring. Heyman says that last night, at NOC, he got to witness history because he saw CM Punk successfully defend the WWE title against John Cena. He says he knows there is a lot of controversy and in the interest clarity, he wants referee Chad Patton to come to the ring and defend his decision from last night.

Heyman has Patton to look at a photo on the titan tron showing all four shoulders on the mat as the three count was made. Heyman ask’s if Patton made the right decision and Patton says “Yes I did.

Heyman agrees and he says he and CM Punk admire him for standing by his decision. Heyman says he found footage taken by a fan at ringside that was posted on You Tube and taken down earlier today. He blames Cena for having it taken down. Heyman shows the footage that looks like it was recorded with a cell phone in the front row and it also shows the finish with all four shoulders to the mat. Heyman tells all the fans to respect the 303rd day of CM Punk’s WWE title reign and John Cena’s music hits and he is on his way to the ring.

Paul Heyman tries to get the first word in but Cena tells him to shut up and says Chad Patton made the right call last night. He also says he can barely turn on his cell phone never mind take down a You Tube video. He feels Patton made the right decision but the finality of the decision was like ending the Superbowl in a tie. Cena ask’s Heyman if CM Punk earned anyone’s respect by retaining the title in a tie. Heyman says in one word “Yes” and small YES chant breaks out.

Cena says he and Heyman have different definitions of respect. He says respect isn’t earned by a shadow of a doubt by winning with a tie but leaving no doubt by beating anyone on any given night. Again, he says Patton made the right call but he wants to find out who the winner is and wants the rematch tonight.

Heyman says CM Punk will tell Cena what he thinks of his challenge when gets to the building. Heyman says hearing the answer from him is as good as hearing it from CM Punk because he is the voice of the voice of the voiceless.

Alberto Del Rio comes out to the ramp with microphone in hand and tells Cena to stop crying about last night. Del Rio says he, on the other hand, never had a fair shot at the WHC because of Booker T’s decision to bring back the Brogue Kick. He says if anyone deserves a rematch, it’s him.

AJ skips to the ring and says they both deserve a second chance and she is going to combine both main events form last night into a super main event. The match is Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk vs. John Cena and Sheamus. She says the winner of this match will go a long way to determine who gets a rematch and who will be in it. Heyman tries to talk AJ out of the match but she simply skips away as he is not happy with her decision.

Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio are seen backstage walking to the ring together as we go to break while Sin Cara’s music is playing in the back ground.

Michael Cole addresses the television audience with an update on Jerry Lawler. He credits the WWE doctor Michael Sampson and Montreal EMT’s for saving his life. He also says Lawler is back home in Memphis and there will be an exclusive interview with Lawler, next week, on Raw. JBL makes his way to the ring to do the play by play with Cole. He says they were never as controversial, charismatic and as awesome as he is. He goes on to say he proved his greatness by winning his four way match at Night of Champions and introduces Booker T.

Miz asks Booker how it feels to be the first guest on Miz TV. Before Booker can answer, Miz answers for him and says it is better than Booker’s FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME reign as world heavyweight champion and that it is even bigger than his first Wrestlemania and almost as good as when he won his title match, blind folded, last night.

  6. Snow says:

When did Beth’s downward spiral start? I mean seriously she went from the most “dominate diva” to jobbing to Eve? Champion or not, its Eve…

  7. Rusty Shackleford says:

Is WWE trying to see how many people they can fit at the announce table at one time tonight? I’m pretty sure 5 people is the most I’ve ever seen.

  8. James says:

    FEED ME MORE!

  9. makin u mad says:

I hope the kane and bryan “Im the tag team champions” rants stops soon its so irritating

  10. Jake says:

Now I’m not one of those people who always complains about the show, in fact I never usually do. Although, this was one of the most absolute horrible RAW’s I have ever personally watched. What a terrible ending.

  11. Philip says:

@Matthew W. I’m not sure you could have Cole stay a heel after Lawler’s heart attack. He showed a lot of guts to stay out there like that.

  12. TNA Sux says:

Ah yes but even for being one of the most absolute horrible RAW’s ever it still was better than that insidious garbage TNA puts out week after week

  13. MrBeatnik says:

Ok seriously… That was one of the BEST Raw’s I’ve seen in a LONG time. I actually watched EVERY match for the first time in years, INCLUDING the Divas match…

The Tag division is finally starting to look like its getting some attention with a bunch of established teams (Primetime Players, Mysterio/Sin Cara, The Usos, Primo and Epico, Truth/Kingston)… And frankly, I LOVE this Bryan-Kane gimmick. I’d love to see a few more, but this will bring a nice buzz…

I love that all of the right Superstars seem to be getting the pushes they deserve…

AJ’s shorts are NEVER a bad thing, and the PG rating is starting to look more like at least PG-13 now, which is much better…

I must say Orton’s DDT off the ropes to Tensai was AWESOME… The Ziggler/Santino match was surprisingly good…

And everyone who hated the Main Event? Seriously you guys… The match itself was AWESOME, like seriously awesome… And the finish was pretty great too!

How many of you ACTUALLY watched the show?!

  14. WWE Sux says:

That was a good show compared to the absolute trash the WWE has been putting since 2005.

  15. r u kidding me?! says:

What a joke of a show! The WWE is a sinking ship

  16. Fisha695 says:

Didn’t see the PPV so not sure if he was like this then or not but JBL last name gave me that “Oldschool” feel to the color commentator position that I’ve not seen in the WWE in more then 12 years. He called wrestlers out on their faults while praising their strengths & I believe it’s the first time in about 15 years that atleast 3 non-WWE owned wrestling promotions & their championships were mentioned on air, though he did get it a bit wrong.

CMLL & CMLL World Heavyweight Champions when referring to both Cara & Mysterio. While Cara was a CMLL World Champ it was the Welterweight version of the title & Rey never won a Championship in CMLL though he did win 2 in AAA.

WCC & WCC Tag Titles when referring to Epico & Primo. Though Primo won it (with Carlito), Epico has only held two WCC titles & they were both Singles title.

NJPW/IWGP & IWGP Heavyweight Title for Albert..err Tensai. Yes he wrestled for NJPW however “IWGP” was not the name of a promotion as JBL referred to it as & he only held the IWGP Tag Titles not the Heavyweight Championship as JBL said.

There may have been more mentions thoughout the night (I think he brought up Del Rio’s past too but I wasn’t really paying attention) but those were the 3 I caught. Not sure if he was being fed those lines (doubt it) so I’m gonna say his mind was in the right place (and a refreshing place as it’s nice to not have to pretend that wrestling outside of the trademarks/Video Libraries WWE owns doesn’t exist when watching RAW) though he just needed to fact-check a bit l0l

Also it was refreshing to hear both JBL & JR talk about Rey & Cara as if they were a legit tag-team (which IIRC is the plan for them heading through the Winter months)which is something that has been ignored by the WWE during their run together so far. And on that note hopefully they get some sort of combined entrance, fancy team name & matching/complementing attire by RAW next week.

  17. jack says:

It looks like Ryback may finally be getting some real competition. About time.

  18. Scott says:

TNA Sux. You obviously haven’t watched TNA lately, haven’t you?!?
