8/17 WWE Friday Night Smackdown Report

Smackdown opens with a replay of what happened between Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus last week, and the aftermath of Smackdown General Manager Booker T cancelling the World Heavyweight Championship Match that was scheduled for SummerSlam.
No opening video this week, as we go straight into the arena where Alberto Del Rio’s music hits and he and Ricardo Rodriguez make their way to the ring. Del Rio says he wants his World Heavyweight Championship Match back right now. He asks what kind of Champion Sheamus is when he goes and begs Booker T to cancel the match and what kind of GM Booker is for cancelling the match. Del Rio says he is staying in the ring until he gets his title match reinstated. Booker’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Booker says Del Rio has been a pain in his side ever since he became GM. Del Rio says he made Sheamus pay for messing with his property. Booker says a man doesn’t dress up goons and have them beat up one guy. Booker says that won’t go down on Smackdown. Del Rio says he earned the right to be the number one contender a long time ago and says he spoke with his lawyers. Chris Jericho’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Jericho asks Del Rio to please shut the hell up. He says nobody cares about Del Rio’s car, his lawyers, his ring announcer, his whining and complaining, among other things. Del Rio asks Jericho who he thinks he is. Jericho asks the crowd if they want him to give Del Rio a Spanish lesson and they say yes. Jericho says Del Rio’s breath smells like dog poop in Spanish. Jericho says that since Del Rio isn’t getting a title shot at SummerSlam, then after he beats Dolph Ziggler, he will go on and beat Sheamus and win the ultimate big one. Del Rio says Jericho isn’t going to steal his World Heavyweight Title match. Booker jumps back in and says Sheamus will not be competing at SummerSlam. He says the main event tonight will be Chris Jericho vs. Alberto Del Rio.
We see that we will see Brock Lesnar’s attack on Shawn Michaels from this past Raw and get an update on Michaels’ condition later tonight. We also see that Cody Rhodes and The Miz will take on Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara next as we go to a commercial.
Match #1: Cody Rhodes and The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara
Cody Rhodes cuts a promo before the match and says he has a picture of Sin Cara unmasked. A goofy-looking caricature shows up on the TitanTron.
Rhodes and Sin Cara start off the match and Sin Cara takes Rhodes down with a springboard elbow. Rhodes goes to the apron and Sin Cara takes him down, while Mysterio takes down The Miz. Rhodes and Sin Cara get back into the ring and Rhodes takes control of the match. The Miz gets into the match and goes to work on Sin Cara. The Miz takes him into the corner and tags in Rhodes. Rhodes comes in and stomps Sin Cara on the mat. Rhodes picks Sin Cara up and drops him face-first onto the mat. Rhodes keeps control and tags in The Miz. The Miz punches Sin Cara in the corner, but Sin Cara comes back with some kicks before The Miz takes him down and applies a submission. The Miz tags in Rhodes, who comes in and wrenched Sin Cara’s neck while trying to rip off his mask. Sin Cara fights out and tags in Mysterio. Mysterio comes in and takes control of Rhodes. Mysterio kicks him in the head and gets a two count. Rhodes sends Mysterio off of the ropes, but Mysterio comes back and hits a bulldog and gets the lateral press for two. Sin Cara gets in the ring and clotheslines The Miz over the top rope. Rhodes goes to rip off Sin Cara’s mask again, but Mysterio catches him with the 6-1-9 and the splash from the top for the pin fall. Winners: Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. After the match, The Miz tries to attack Mysterio from behind with the Intercontinental Championship belt, but Mysterio trips him up and hits the 6-1-9. Mysterio picks up the Intercontinental Championship and hold it over his head before putting it down on the floor.
We see that Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan will go one-on-one later tonight as we go to a commercial.
Match #2: Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks vs. Two Local Competitors
Hawkins starts off the match with one of the guys and kicks him in the back. Hawkins shoves him into the corner and tags in Reks. Reks kicks the guy as well and drops an elbow. Reks tosses him to the other side of the ring and the guy tags in his partner. The other guy comes in the ring and Reks kicks him down to the mat. Reks tags in Hawkins and they take the guy down with a double team move. Hawkins picks the guy up and slams him down. Hawkins tags in Reks and they hit a double team move and Reks gets the pin fall. Winners: Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins.
We see that we will see what happened between CM Punk and John Cena on Raw this past Monday night as we go to a commercial.
We’re back from the commercial and we take a look back at what went down on this past Monday’s Raw between CM Punk and John Cena.
We see Eve Torres walking backstage when William Regal walks up. Regal wishes her luck and she says she doesn’t need it. Regal reminisces about his time as the General Manager of Raw. A woman walks up and tells Regal to take out the trash as Eve looks disgusted. We go to a commercial.
We’re back from commercial and we see Wade Barrett’s return vignette.
Teddy Long has joined Michael Cole and Josh Mathews at ringside for the next match.
Match #3: Singles Match where the winner will be named Booker T’s assistant: Eve Torres vs. Kaitlyn
The girls tie up and Eve gets a cheap shot in and takes Kaitlyn down to the mat. Eve gets Kaitlyn caught up in a modified arm bar submission and uses the ropes for leverage. Kaitlyn sends Eve off the ropes and back drops her to the mat. Kaitlyn gets a roll up for a two count. Kaitlyn charges at Eve, but Eve catches her and drapes her over the middle rope. Kaitlyn comes back and gets a two count on Eve, befoe Eve turns the tide and takes Kaitlyn down again. Eve tosses Kaitlyn into the corner, but Kaitlyn comes back and dives off the top rope. Eve moves out of the way and Kaitlyn hits the mat. Eve hits her finisher for the pin fall. Winner and Booker T’s new assistant: Eve Torres.
We see that Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan’s one-on-one match will take place next as we go to a commercial.
We’re back from the commercial and Eve Torres walks into Booker T’s office. Booker congratulates her and she says she has many ideas to improve Smackdown. Booker says he is concerned that Eve and Teddy Long can’t work together, but she says the past is the past and she is here to work.
Match #4: Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton
They tie up and Orton gets Bryan in a headlock. Bryan shoots Orton off the ropes, but Orton takes him down with a shoulder block. Bryan shoots him off again, but Orton takes Bryan down with another shoulder block. Bryan comes back and connects with a few right hands before Orton takes him down to the mat again. Bryan goes to the outside and argues with a fan before getting back into the ring. Orton tosses him overhead with a back body drop and then stomps on his chest. Orton attempts to drop a knee, but Bryan moves and takes Orton down. Bryan goes after Orton and jumps down on his knee and continues to work on it. Bryan charges Orton in the corner, but Orton fights back. Bryan goes back to work on Orton’s knee and takes him down to the mat. Bryan drops his own knee down on Orton’s and stretches it out in a submission. Orton fights back, but Bryan takes out his knee again. He suplexes Orton down to the mat and goes to the top rope. Orton catches him up top and delivers a headbutt. Orton goes on the ropes as well and superplexes Bryan off of the top rope. Orton drapes an arm over Bryan, but only gets a two count as we go to a commercial.
We’re back and Orton and Bryan are trading blows in the ring. Bryan attacks Orton’s knee again and Orton goes down to the mat. Orton goes to the corner and Bryan stalks him and continues to work on the knee. Bryan charges in the corner, but Orton moves out of the way and rolls Bryan up for a two count. Orton takes Bryan down with a couple of clotheslines and a power slam. Orton takes Bryan and goes for his DDT from the second rope, but Bryan reverses and takes Orton to the outside. Orton slams Bryan into the barricade and tosses him back into the ring, but Bryan gets out on the other side. Orton goes after him, but Bryan slams him into the steel steps. Bryan tosses Orton back into the ring and gets a two count. Bryan kicks Orton in the ring, but Orton counters and hits his back breaker for a two count. Orton picks Bryan up and tosses him into the corner. Orton charges, but Bryan counters and hops up on the ropes, but Orton catches him and delivers his DDT from the second rope. Orton sets up for the RKO, but Bryan reverses and goes for the No Lock. Orton tries to fight out, but Bryan gets it locked in. Kane’s music and pyrotechnics go off and Bryan gets out of the ring. Bryan gets back into the ring and gets caught with an RKO and Orton gets the pin fall. Winner: Randy Orton. After the match, Kane walks out onto the stage and stares and laughs at Bryan.
We are reminded of the main event tonight, which is Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho, as we go to a commercial.
We’re back from the commercial and Santino Marella has joined Michael Cole and Josh Mathews at the commentary table.
Match #5: Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksana) vs. Zack Ryder
Cesaro knees Ryder in the midsection and tosses him down to the mat. Cesaro kicks Ryder in the head and stomps him. Cesaro headbutts Ryder in the chest and applies a submission in the ring. Ryder fights back and slams Cesaro down to the mat and delivers a couple of clotheslines. Ryder takes Cesaro to the corner and delivers the Broski Boot for a two count. Cesaro comes back and tosses Ryder onto the top rope and delivers his finisher for the pin fall. Winner: Antonio Cesaro. After the match, Cesaro knocks the headset off of Marella and shoves him over the announce table.
We see that we will take a look back at Brock Lesnar’s attack on Shawn Michaels from this past Monday night on Raw and get an update on Michaels’ condition next as we go to a commercial.
We’re back from the commercial and we go back to Raw on Monday and see Brock Lesnar’s attack on Shawn Michaels. Cole and Mathews inform us that Michaels’ injuries will prevent him from being in Triple H’s corner for his match against Brock Lesnar this Sunday at SummerSlam.
Match #6: Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Chris Jericho
Before the match, we see Dolph Ziggler take out Chris Jericho with the Money in the Bank briefcase and a big metal cart. We go to a commercial.
We’re back from commercial, and Del Rio declares himself the winner of the match by forfeit. Del Rio tells Booker T to come out and grant him his SummerSlam match, but Chris Jericho’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring.
Del Rio taunts Jericho and Jericho connects with a big right hand. Jericho sends Del Rio off the ropes, but Del Rio comes back and takes him down to the mat. Del Rio stomps on Jericho’s chest and gets a two count. Del Rio takes Jericho to the corner and chokes him with his boot. Jericho comes back with a chop, but Del Rio takes him down with a knee to the midsection and puts a boot to Jericho’s head int he ropes. Jericho comes back and sends Del Rio to the mat and kicks him in the midsection. Jericho charges at Del Rio, but Del Rio sends him over the top rope and kicks him into the announce table as we go to a commercial.
We’re back and Del Rio has Jericho in a submission in the middle of the ring. Jericho fights back and connects with some right hands before Del Rio takes him down with a back breaker and gets a two count. Del Rio tosses Jericho into the corner and takes him down for another two count. Del Rio goes up top and jumps off, but Jericho moves out of the way and takes Del Rio down with a couple of shoulder blocks. Del Rio comes back, but Jericho takes him down with a back elbow. Jericho hits the Lionsault and gets a two count on Del Rio. Del Rio comes back with a headbutt and tosses Jericho into the corner. Del Rio gets caught in the Walls of Jericho, but he powers out of it and kicks Jericho into the ropes, where Dolph Ziggler pulls the top rope down and tosses Jericho back into the ring. Del Rio kicks Jericho in the head and gets the pin fall. Winner: Alberto Del Rio. After the match, Del Rio applies the cross arm breaker on Jericho while Ziggler yells at him. Sheamus’ music hits and he runs into the ring and attacks Del Rio. Sheamus pummels Del Rio, but Del Rio kicks Sheamus in his injured arm and goes for the cross arm breaker, but Sheamus tackles him to the outside of the ring. Del Rio escapes through the crowd. Booker T’s music hits and he asks Sheamus what he is doing. Sheamus tells him to reinstate the match, but Booker says no. Sheamus asks him again and Booker finally says yes. Booker announces Sheamus will defend the World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday as SummerSlam as Smackdown comes to a close.
