8/10/12 WWE Friday Night Smackdown Report

We see the Smackdown opening video and Josh Mathews welcomes us to the show from Houston, Texas. We see that Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel will return tonight with guests Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero.

Smackdown General Manager Booker T makes his way to the ring. He says it feels good to be in his hometown. He says we have a problem and then shows footage from Raw of Sheamus stealing Alberto Del Rio’s car. Booker said that seeing Del Rio freak out made him smile, but Sheamus crossed the line. Booker says he wants Sheamus to come out and apologize to Del Rio. Sheamus comes out and shakes hands with Booker. Sheamus says that Del Rio tried to take away his dignity, so he decided to take his car. Sheamus apologizes to Booker, the entire WWE Universe, and then to Del Rio. Booker tries to move on, but Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez come out. Del Rio says they’re not just leaving it behind them. Del Rio says Sheamus is a peasant, a thief, a thug, and a criminal. Del Rio says he filed a report with the San Antonio Police Department. Booker says if Del Rio filed legal papers, Sheamus can’t defend the title. Del Rio says he doesn’t care and that Booker better do something right now. Sheamus interrupts and says that he has a solution. He says they don’t need to wait for SummerSlam and they should have their World Heavyweight Championship Match tonight. Booker asks Del Rio what he says. Del Rio says his head is saying to wait, but he doesn’t care. Booker ends with “Now can you dig that, Sucka?” and we have our main event for tonight.

We see that Cody Rhodes vs. Sin Cara is up next as we go to a commercial.

Match #1: Cody Rhodes vs. Sin Cara
Before the match, Rhodes says Cara wears a mask because without it, there is nothing special about him whatsoever. Rhodes backs Cara into the corner, but Cara comes back and gets a quick one count. Cara takes Rhodes to the outside and goes for a baseball slide, but Rhodes stops him and tries to rip Cara’s mask off. Cara gets away and comes off the top rope, but Rhodes kicks him with a dropkick and gets a two count. Rhodes slams Cara to the mat and gets another two count. Rhodes clocks Cara with a right hand and then stomps him down to the mat. Rhodes attempts a submission on Cara, but he counters with an arm-drag. Rhodes comes back and takes Cara down for another two count. Rhodes picks Cara up, but Cara comes back and connects with a springboard elbow and another arm-drag. Cara connects with a kick to Rhodes’ head and hits a cross-body from the top rope. Cara charges at Rhodes, but Rhodes clocks him and knocks him to the mat. Rhodes goes to rip the mask off again, but Cara rolls through and rolls Rhodes up for the pin fall. Winner: Sin Cara.

We are reminded again of our main event tonight, which will see Sheamus defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio.

We go backstage and see Daniel Bryan screaming “No!” at everyone he walks past as we go to a commercial.

We’re back from commercial and we see Wade Barrett’s return vignette.

Daniel Bryan’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring. He grabs a microphone and says “No! No! No!” over and over again as the crowd chants “Yes! Yes! Yes!” He tells them to stop chanting “Yes!” He says he is a former World Heavyweight Champion. He says he deserves to be in the WWE Championship Match at SummerSlam, but instead, he is in a match with Kane all because of AJ. He asks if he deserves that and he says the answer is no. He says he deserves more than to stand here and be insulted by the WWE Universe and to be walked all over by some little girl and he overgrown Frankenstein boy-toy. Kane’s music hits and he makes his way out to the ring. AJ’s music hits soon after and she comes out as well. Bryan goes to leave the ring, but AJ tells him to get back in. AJ says Bryan looks shocked to see her, but Booker T asked her to be the special guest tonight. AJ says she made the match for SummerSlam because they are both great athletes. She says they can’t come out and fight every week. She turns to Kane and says it’s good to see him again and that she appreciates how sweet and understanding he was when other people treated her miserably. She turns to Bryan and says that the fact that he has never pinned Kane in a one-on-one match to drive his rage. She says he needs to prove that he is as mentally stable as he says he is. She says he needs to show good sportsmanship by shaking Kane’s hand. Bryan says no over and over again. J gets in his face and tells him to do it now. Bryan extends his hand as AJ leaves and winks at Kane. Kane uppercuts Bryan and goes for a choke slam, but Bryan counters and goes for the No Lock. Kane shoves Bryan away and he escapes through the crowd as Kane goes after him. Kane gets back into the ring and stares at AJ who says “That was great.” Kane’s flames come out of the ring posts as he and AJ continue to look at each other.

We go backstage and see Teddy Long and Booker T in Booker’s office. Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins come in and ask for an opportunity on Smackdown. Booker says they have to step it up, because he is looking for A+ talent. They try to talk to Booker again, but he yells at them and they leave his office as we go to a commercial.

Match #2: Jinder Mahal vs. Two Local Competitors
Mahal takes down one of the guys with a clothesline and then a power slam. Mahal gets him in a Camel Clutch and the guy taps out. Winner: Jinder Mahal. After the match, Mahal attacks the other guy and brings him into the ring and applies a Double Camel Clutch to both guys. Ryback’s music hits and he comes out to the ring. Mahal gets out of the ring as he and Ryback look at each other. Ryback picks up the two guys and hits them with Shell Shocked.

We are reminded against that Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel will happen next as we go to a commercial break.

We’re back and Chris Jericho comes out to host The Highlight Reel. Vickie Guerrero comes out and says she will be speaking on Dolph Ziggler’s behalf. Jericho says that’s fine and he has no problem interviewing Ziggler’s mother. Vickie says if he insults him one more time, she will walk off the show and he will have no guest. He mocks her and tells her to “get the hell out of here, then.” She goes to leave, but he stops her. He asks her why she’s always so angry all the time. He says she is probably angry that Ziggler lost to Riley on Raw, and we review the footage on the brand-new JeriTron 6000. Jericho mocks Ziggler’s loss to Riley and says it’s worse than Vickie’s dye job. Vickie says Ziggler knows that Jericho can’t win the big one anymore, and will prove it when he goes one-on-one with Jericho at SummerSlam. Jericho says he doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody because his legacy stand out on its own. He says Ziggler got in his head. Jericho says he needed to bring back Y2J. Jericho accepts the challenge as Ziggler gets in the ring and swings the briefcase at him. Jericho takes advantage until Vickie distracts him long enough for Ziggler to hit the Zig-Zag.

We go back to earlier tonight and see where Sheamus challenged Del Rio to a title match for later tonight.

WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston and R-Truth make their way out to the ring as we go to a commercial

Match #3: #1 Contender’s (WWE Tag Team Championship) Match: Epico and Primo vs. The Prime Time Players (w/A.W.)
Epico and Young start the match, and Young takes him down and tags in O’Neil. O’Neil keeps control and tags Young back into the match. Primo gets tagged in and he takes control of Young. Primo takes Young down with a DDT, but O’Neil breaks up the count. A.W. tosses water on Kofi and Truth and they attack A.W. and O’Neil, and the referee calls for the bell. Winners by Disqualification: The Prime Time Players.

We see that we will take a look back at the ending of Raw later tonight as we go to a commercial.

Match #4: Antonio Cesaro (w/Aksana) vs. Christian
Cesaro gets Christian in a headlock, but Christian shoots him off the ropes and tosses him to the outside. Christian goes for a baseball slide, but Cesaro turns the tide and tosses Christian into the steel steps. Cesaro tosses Christian back into the ring, but Christian kicks out at two. Cesaro gets Christian in a headlock, but Christian fights out. Cesaro slams Christian to the mat and gets a two count. Cesaro chokes Christian over the bottom rope and then connects with an uppercut. Cesaro goes to the middle rope and jumps off, but Christian gets his feet up for the reversal. Christian pounds away on Cesaro and takes him down to the mat. Cesaro takes control for a brief moment, but Christian comes back and takes Cesaro down for a two count. Christian goes up top and dives off, but Cesaro catches him and slams him down for a two count. Cesaro backs Christian into the corner, but Christian comes back and lines Cesaro up for the Killswitch, but Cesaro head butts Christian on the back. Cesaro goes for his finishing move, but Christian reverses. Christian goes for a frog splash, but Cesaro reverses with an uppercut. Cesaro goes for his finisher again, but Christian reverses and hits the Spear for the pin fall. Winner: Christian. After the match, Cesaro attacks Christian and drives him spine first into the barricade.

We see the Raw Rebound, which focuses on what happened at the end of Raw between the WWE Champion CM Punk, John Cena, and The Big Show. We see that CM Punk vs. The Big Show will open Raw this coming Monday night.

We go backstage and Eve Torres asks Booker T for a job again. He says there are no openings. Teddy Long brings Kaitlyn in and she asks to be Booker’s assistant. Eve gets mad and threatens to inform the Board. Booker makes a match between Eve Torres and Kaitlyn for next week’s Smackdown and the winner will be his assistant.

Match #5: Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz
Miz backs Mysterio into the corner and then stomps him down to the mat. Mysterio comes back and takes Miz down with a hurricanrana. Mix charges at Mysterio, but Mysterio catches him with a back elbow. Miz takes control back and slides Mysterio to the floor. Miz goes out after him and tosses him back into the ring. Miz knees Mysterio in the back and kicks him in the head for a two count. Miz gets Mysterio in a headlock, but Mysterio comes back and takes him down with some kicks before Miz takes Mysterio’s knees out from under him. Miz comes off the top rope, but Mysterio counters with a dropkick. Mysterio comes off the top rope and keeps control. Mysterio kicks Miz in the head and gets a two count. Mysterio goes up top again, but Miz counters and connects with a couple of lefts. Miz gets on the ropes as well and Mysterio flips off, but Miz counters and holds on to the ropes. Miz goes for a cover, but only gets a two count. Mysterio sets Miz up for the 6-1-9, but Miz catches him and goes for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Mysterio rolls through for the pin fall. Winner: Rey Mysterio.

We see Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio walking backstage as we go to a commercial.

Match #6: World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sheamus (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio (w/Ricardo Rodriguez)
Before the match begins, we see some police walking down to the ring. Del Rio tells them to stop because he never filed the report. Del Rio smiles at Sheamus and tells the men to attack Sheamus. Sheamus fights them off and goes after Del Rio, but the numbers game got Sheamus as all of the men and Del Rio beat him down. The men pick Sheamus up and Del Rio slaps him across the face twice. Del Rio kicks Sheamus in the back of the head and tells the men to leave the ring. Sheamus struggles to get to his feet and Del Rio applies the cross arm-breaker. Smackdown comes to a close with Del Rio staring down at Sheamus.
