Gargano to stay with Dragon Gate
Jul 29, 2012 - by Dr. Jerry Wiseman
Dragon Gate “Open the Freedom Gate” Champion Johnny Gargano addressed the crowd at the Dragon Gate iPPV last night and while noting that independent wrestling is dying he is staying with the company.
Gargano had been on the radar of the WWE for some time but some are saying the interest waned after step-father Walt Klasinski was released from prison after serving six months from working a deal with prosecutors that saw numerous sexual battery and rape charges reduced to aggravated battery on a woman. Joe Dombrowski had been the booker for Klasinski and then allegedly assumed control of the company turning it from Pro Wrestling Ohio to Prime Wrestling but it appears this was an affront to keeping the seat warm for Klasinski.
Klasinski has been seen at numerous events since his release and the company has seen poor ratings on Sports Time Ohio prompting fears that the station may soon drop their wrestling programming. Most of the Prime Wrestling shows are now being taped before a scant crowd in the parking lot of the restaurant/catering business owned by Klasinski/Gargano.
It is thought the WWE is under enough scrutiny with Linda McMahon’s senate campaign, the lawsuit and contract tampering case brought by TNA and the recent press about the WWE Wellness Program and the Great Kahli that Gargano would be little more than a distraction for the company at this stage.
