PWInsider reports that a limited liability corporation (LLC) based out of New York named “Mocker” registered to trademark “ECW” for wrestling use in March. WWE apparently let the trademark slip, and the registration was assigned to an examiner earlier this week.

Wow, the stupidity of WWE here. That being said, even without the registration their continued use of the name (such as on the new DVD) should allow them to keep the name.

There is or was other trademark names of wwe that expired. I seen some of them myself but never thought to buy it. They may only keep the ones that they’ll use in the future.
Who cares? ECW is dead and gone, and it’s never EEEEEEEEVER coming back agayn~!

sounds like someone dropped the ball! hard to imagine wwe having zero intention of re-registering the ‘ecw’ trademark when they own the video library. id be surprised to hear otherwise! i guess even if they cant use the letters ‘ecw’, they can still market it as ‘extreme championship wrestling’ if they release a dvd or t- shirt, but its e-c-dub, man! will they have to blur out the letters like they did with wwf?

I don’t know about you guys but to me this sounds like it can be the start of a storyline.

A look at the Trademark and Patent Office website shows that it’s been filed but not granted. I’d expect this to be successfully challenged.
Why would WWE even care? TNA has all the old, washed-up drug addicts from ECW now. Enjoy your minimum wage wrestling jobs.
That’s great and all, but Mocker LLC didn’t apply for the “Extreme Championship Wrestling” trademark.
It’s my guess (and this is pure speculation), that Douglas contacted them as a potential backer given that he wants to turn his current thing into a new, long term solution. THIS IS ALL PIE IN THE SKY, but i’m just saying.
