Viacom v. Direct
Jul 13, 2012 - by Dr. Jerry Wiseman
The feud between Viacom and DirecTv appears to have no end in sight with both sides drawing a line in the sand. DirectTv had said the price increase suggested by Viacom is exorbitant and they (Direct) will not gouge their subscribers. Viacom stands to profit over a billion dollars if Direct agrees to the price increase.
The disagreement between the two sides has a significant impact on pro wrestling fans since Spike TV, one of the Viacom channels that has gone black in the dispute, carries TNAs Impact Wrestling. There is the possibility that Impact Wrestling, which airs live on Thursday night, will not be available again next week.
Viacom owns some of the most popular channels on cable/satellite including Spike, VH1, MTV, Nickelodeon, TV Land and others.
DirecTv has upwards of 20 million subscribers that this black-out of Viacom stations is affecting.
