Potential big name rejects WWE for hall of fame induction

The Wrestling Observer has noted that WWE has reached out to legend Bruno Sammartino about possible induction into the WWE Hall of Fame next year. “The Big Cheese” Sal Corrente noted that Sammartino had been contacted, but he stated that Sammartino “will NOT be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.”

Is Sal Corrente on crack? Bruno Sammartino should have been in the HOF years ago!

  2. Mike says:

Bruno will not go into the Hall of Fame until after he dies. Same with Backlund. Older school guys don’t want to be a part of it. Look at Billy Graham- he sold his HOF ring.

  3. Joey says:

We all know Sammartino wants no part of WWE’s Hall of Fame

  4. -J- says:

He has beef with WWe still a legend either way.

  5. Trig says:

He should have been, and if WWE had their way he would have been, but he’s always refused it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered it to him every year.

  6. Jarron says:

Agreed, but it’s his choice and if i remember correctly this isn’t the first time Sammartino has declined. He has a grudge with the WWE and the state of professional wrestling it seems.

  7. M.J. Wright says:

Bruno will sit out until he’s dead and probably have it in his will that he should never be inducted into Vince’s hall of fame.

  8. eddie says:

raven I agree but maybe sammartino doesn’t want it because mad because took so long

  9. Motorhead says:

since wwe owns the entire in-ring career of bruno, from toronto to pittsburgh to nyc, why exactly does bruno or any other former wwe wrestler or personality need to consent induction into the hall? If they use his name or likeness they already get a check for royalties. Why not do like the other sports or rock n roll hof and simply induct those who deserve induction? If bruno, like, say axl rose, chooses to spurn the honor, so be it. It’s these types of things that hold wwe’s hall back and cause it ridicule. Gorgeous george was dead when he went in. Though his family consented who’s to say he would’ve wanted to go in? I used to love the wwe hof but have grown to strongly dislike it for these very reasons. Savage, thesz, o’connor, bruno, and dozens of other important workers and wrestlers deserve induction. The hal is a farse. Period. … Then again, after the stunt vince pulled on bruno on larry king live back in the early 90s when vince was accused of rape and drug pushing, i’d deny as well. Just sayin.

ACtually Backlund has said he will go in once he believes he can no longer actively wrestle. He has told people in the past he thinks he hs one more run. Laughable yes, but I am not sure he is all there. Sammartino has stated many times he hates the WWE product and doesn’t want to be a part of the Hall. He is also still bitter at Vince for firing his son in the 80s and the way they treated him as well.

  11. McMahon says:

If he doesn’t need or want the money then good for him. Let him live his life and enjoy it.

  12. Nick says:

It amazes me that some people are still surprised that Sammartino wants nothing to do with WWE. The only American promotion he has any contact with on a regular basis has been ROH.

  13. Joseph says:

WWE Hall of Fame is just a gimmick like the Hockey Hall of Fame

  14. Fisha695 says:

The only wrestling HOFs/Awards that actually matter (atleast here in the USA) in the grand scheme of things are the independently run ones.
Cauliflower Alley Club, Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum (based in NY), St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame, Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, etc.

Even the one here (no offense Steve) isn’t so much a true HOF as it is a “Hall of Popularity”.

The WWE/TNA/CZW/etc ones are all primarily gimmick driven in-order to advance storylines & merchandise sales. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of legit HOF’rs in the WWE/TNA/CZW/etc ones & most of them are (or will be shortly) recognized by the various Independently run HOFs, but there are so so many that are just there to move storylines/merchandise.

  15. Jon says:

It’s too bad Bruno isnt willing to give up the grudge. Fact is 95 percent of the people watching wrestling now a days have never heard of Bruno. It’s a shame he won’t take the offer, as perhaps a DVD of his best matches would be next and that would definitely be something that would interest people. You would think that would interest Bruno aswell.
