~ Here’s some more info on the story broken by Steve Gerweck concerning former Strikeforce champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante testing positive for a banned substance following a victory over Mike Kyle last month at the “Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Final” event. Strikeforce officials have not released a formal statement, but Cavalcante’s manager, Ed Soares, said they’ll “fight it,” meaning an appeal is likely. In addition to a one-year suspension, the CSAC issued the 31-year-old Cavalcante a $2,500 fine. The fighter earned a disclosed payday of $66,000 for the event, $33,000 of which came as a win bonus.
~ Former 2-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim “The Maineiac” Sylvia, 36 won last night. Sylvia defeated Randy Smith via TKO (Punches) in just 12 seconds. The bout headlined New England Fights 3 – Fight Night 3 from the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine. Sylvia is 7-1 in his last 8 bouts. Sylvia’s record now stands at 31-7
~ UFC light-heavyweight veteran Matt “Luke Duke” Lucas (15-3) won last night by defeating Lucas Overcast via unanimous decision. The event, ShoFIGHT 20, went down at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Missouri. Lucas was one-&-done with the UFC, losing to recently released Aaron Rosa via decision at UFC on FOX 1: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez.
~ Following his UFC on FX 3 win over Jared Papazian, Dustin Pague (11-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has agreed to replace an injured Francisco Rivera and now faces Ken Stone (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at Friday’s UFC on FX 4 event in New Jersey. UFC on FX 4 occurs at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. Pague will try to get 2 victories in 2 weeks. This is Stone’s 3rd scheduled opponent.
~ A welterweight matchup between Dan Stittgen (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and UFC newcomer Marcelo Guimaraes (7-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is set for July’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 event. UFC on FUEL TV 4 takes place July 11 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The night’s main card airs on FUEL TV, and preliminary bouts are expected to stream on Facebook.
