~ UFC/Strikeforce middleweight veteran Jorge Santiago won last night at the Marshall Army Airfield in Fort Riley, Kansas. Fighting in the main event of Titan Fighting Championship 23: Fight for the Troops, Santiago was victorious over Justin Guthrie via Submission (Heel Hook) at 1:34 into Round 1. Santiago has won 2 straight since his UFC release last October to improve to 25-10.
~ In a battle of DREAM lightweight veterans held last night in Tokyo, Japan, Satoru Kitaoka (30-11-9) defeated Katsunori Kikuno (16-5-2) via unanimous decision. The bout occurred at Deep – 58 Impact. Kitaoka is a former Lightweight Champion for the defunct Sengoku promotion & owns wins over UFC veterans Carlos Condit, Takanori Gomi, Paul Daley.
~ Official weigh-ins for next week’s “UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II” event are scheduled for Friday, June 22, at 3 p.m. ET (4 p.m. BRT local time) at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The same venue, also known as “Mineirinho,” hosts the following day’s pay-per-view event. Current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua also will host a special Q&A session. Doors to the venue open at 1 p.m. BRT local time. Dos Santos and Rua start taking questions at 2 p.m. BRT local time.
~ Clay Guida’s trademark locks won’t be swinging as wildly on Friday when he meets Gray Maynard in Atlantic City. In fact, Guida (29-12 MMA, 9-6 UFC) will braid back his shoulder-length curls for the fight – after Maynard’s camp (10-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) filed a complaint with the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board. Guida and Maynard meet in a lightweight contenders bout in the main event of UFC on FX 4 at Revel Atlantic City.
~ Damn that injury bug! UFC bantamweight veteran Francisco Rivera (8-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is injured & will be unable to face Ken Stone (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at Friday’s UFC on FX 4 event in New Jersey. UFC on FX 4 occurs at the Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The bout was set for the prelims.
