~ A month ago, UFC/Bellator/WEC welterweight veteran Edgar Garcia improved to 11-3 with a 32 second Guillotine Choke win over Patrick Dixon. The bout headlined World Fighting Federation 8 – Fight at the Fields in Scottsdale, Arizona. Garcia suffered 2 losses in the UFC in 2009.
~ The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale officially drew 1,628 attendees for a $195,250 live gate. Of the 1,628 attendees, 41 percent (674) were issued as complimentary/unpaid tickets. Additionally, 514 tickets went unsold/unused. The average paid ticket price for the event was $204.66.
~ Mike Pierce (14-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) got back in the win column at UFC on FX 3 in Sunrise, Fla. The split decision win really was a unanimous decision sweep of the scorecards for him. Officials with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, which oversees the Florida Boxing Commission, said that judge Ric Bays, whose score was read as 30-27 for Rocha, had scored the fight in error.
~ Three-time Strikeforce veteran and undefeated middleweight prospect Derek Brunson (9-0) will fight for ShoFIGHT’s first-ever 185-pound title. Strikeforce officials have granted Brunson permission to face The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Kendall Grove (14-10) in the co-main event. ShoFIGHT 20 takes place Saturday at O’Reilly Family Event Center on the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
~ Bellator broadcaster Sean Wheelock, also an active pro boxing referee with more than 250 bouts worth of experience under his belt, is hosting an Association of Boxing Commissions-approved referee and judging seminar for both current and aspiring officials. Led by instructor Rob Hinds, who boasts more than 4,800 bouts worth of experience as a referee and judge, the sessions take place Aug. 4-5 in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kan.
