~ UFC light-heavyweight Aaron Rosa (17-5) was released by the UFC following a 1-2 record with the promotion. Rosa’s 1st UFC fight was at heavyweight. Both of his UFC losses were stoppages. He has fought in Bellator & Strikeforce. He just turned 29.
~ UFC/Bellator heavyweight veteran Eddie “The Manic Hispanic” Sanchez returned to Europe on Thursday for a main event MMA bout. Sanchez (13-7) lost to Vitaly Minakov (8-0) via KO (Punch) just 87 seconds into the bout, held at the Aquarium Sports Arena in Moscow, Russia. Sanchez is now 1-4 in his last 5 bouts.
~ “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” which currently airs each Sunday on Globo in Brazil, had previously only been available online in the U.S. However, FUEL TV now debuts the show tonight at 10 p.m. ET. Featuring opposing coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, “TUF: Brazil” features 16-man tournaments in the featherweight and middleweight divisions, with the 32 fighters all seeking a UFC contract. Subsequent episodes of the show air on FUEL TV each week in the Sunday-night timeslot.
~ Francisco Rivera (8-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has replaced injured Edwin Figueroa (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and now meets fellow bantamweight Ken Stone (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at this month’s UFC on FX 4 event. UFC on FX 4 takes place June 22 at the newly opened Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. Rivera vs. Stone is slated for the prelims.
~ A lightweight bout between former Title Challenger Jorge Masvidal (22-7 MMA, 4-1 SF) and Justin Wilcox (11-4 MMA, 5-2 SF) is the latest addition to next month’s “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” event. “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” takes place July 14 at Rose Garden in Portland, Ore. The evening’s main card airs on Showtime.
