The Ultimate Fighting Championship has released former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Steve Cantwell. The 25-year-old Long Beach California native had been competing for the UFC for the last 3-years. After going 1-2 in his first 3-fights with the company he then missed all of 2010 with an undisclosed personal / medical issue. When he returned in 2011 he lost 3-straight decisions inside the octagon. Prior to joining the UFC he had a record of 6-1.

Steve ‘the Robot’ Cantwell has been active in mixed martial arts for the past 7-years after debuting in 2005. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter and currently trains at One Kicks Gym. He started his career competing in the Rage In The Cage organization before signing with World Extreme Cagefighting in 2007. He spent a year and a half with the company winning and becoming the company’s last WEC Light Heavyweight Champion. Steve Cantwell currently has a career record of 7-6.
