The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced the release of veteran bantamweight fighter Jeff Curran. The 34-year-old Crystal Lakes Illinois native had been with the UFC for the past year having fought twice in 2-losing efforts. He last fought on May 15th losing to Johnny Eduardo by unanimous decision. This was his second stint with the company as he made his debut fighting once back in 2004 at UFC # 46 against Matt Serra. Known by the nickname ‘Big Frog’, Curran has fought for most of the major mixed martial arts organizations during his 14-year career. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter trained by Pedro Sauer who has competed at 3-different weight classes including bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight.
Jeff Curran had 2-stints with World Extreme Cagefighting during his career. He made his debut in a one fight appearance back in 2002 and then returned to the company for 2-years from 2007-2009. During this time he challenged Urijah Faber for the WEC Featherweight Championship. He made 1-fight appearances with the Pride Fighting Championship in 2006, he fought once in Strikeforce in 2009 and then made an appearance in Bellator in 2010. He has worked for numerous other organizations from around the world including notable companies like Extreme Challenge, HooknShoot, the World Fighting Alliance, SuperBrawl, King Of The Cage and the Extreme Fighting Organization. Jeff Curran has a career record of 33-15-1.
