~ Bulgarian Heavyweight Blagoi Ivanov (6-0) has recovered from the serious stab wound that hospitalized him in February and is no longer fighting for his life. The 2008 world combat sambo champion was recently released from Pirogov Hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was reportedly stabbed while attending an after party at Graf Ignatiev restaurant with two friends on Feb. 26. A group of eight armed men then allegedly attacked Ivanov’s party, stabbing the heavyweight under the armpit and reportedly penetrating his heart. The fighter was rushed to the hospital, at which point it was unclear if he would survive. Ivanov, 25, competed in Bellator’s season 5 tournament.
~ UFC/Strikeforce/PRIDE middleweight veteran Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni dropped to 14-15 with a loss on Saturday in Broomfield, Colorado. In the main event of Ring of Fire 43: Bad Blood, Baroni suffered a TKO (Punches) loss to Chris Holland at 2:50 into Round 2. Baroni is 1-5 in his last 6 bouts.
~ Strikeforce/PRIDE/EliteXC middleweight veteran Joey Villaseñor (29-10) was a winner on Saturday via unanimous decision against Donnie Liles (13-6). The two headlined Jackson’s MMA Series 8 from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Villaseñor, now a welterweight, is only 2-4 in his last 6 bouts.
~ Once again Matt Riddle (6-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) has picked up an injury & will not face welterweight Luis Ramos (19-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC on FX 4. Riddle and Ramos were originally slated to fight at UFC 141 in Las Vegas, but the fight was scratched after Riddle became sick the day of the event. Riddle appeared on the 7th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
~ Longtime UFC octagon girl Arianny Celeste will get her day in court on July 2. Celeste, whose real name is Arianny Lopez, was arrested in Las Vegas, charged with domestic violence and booked into Clark County Detention Center in the early hours of May 26 but was released in time to work that evening’s UFC 146 pay-per-view event.
