~ Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix semi-finalist Sergei Kharitonov was victorious Friday night at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia at the inaugural Russian MMA Championship. Kharitonov (19-5) defeated John Delgado via a 34-Second Keylock submission. Delgado was making his pro-debut. Kharitonov has been discussed as a possible opponent for Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier later this year.
~ UFC/PRIDE welterweight veteran David Bielkheden (17-11) lost last night in Dublin, Ireland at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 47. He lost to Irish prospect Cathal Pendred (10-2-1) via unanimous decision. Bielkheden went 1-2 in his brief UFC career. Bielkheden is 1-4 in his last 5 bouts.
~ UFC newcomer Joey Gambino (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has replaced Jimmy Hettes (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and fights featherweight Steven Siler (20-9 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC on FX 4. The event occurs on June 22 at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The night’s main card airs on FX, and FUEL TV carries the preliminary card.
~ Bellator and Strikeforce vet Chad Robichaux (14-2) has stepped up to face UFC/WEC veteran Will Campuzano (10-4) for the vacant Legacy Fighting Championship Flyweight Title. They battle in the main event of LFC 12. The event takes place July 13 at Houston’s Arena Theater. The night’s main card airs on HDNet.
~ An undisclosed injury has forced veteran welterweight Thiago Alves (19-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC) out of next month’s UFC 149 event. A replacement search is underway to find someone for Alves’ opponent, Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who was actually a replacement for injured Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC).
