~ 5 weeks ago, UFC veteran Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (14-7) made a successful light-heavyweight debut when he defeated Anton Talamantes (4-2) via unanimous decision. The bout occured in Newkirk, Oklahoma. It main evented C3 Fights – Great Plains Showdown. Beltran went 3-4 in just 2 years with the UFC, which ended this year in January.
~ The Nevada State Athletic Commission approved Frank Mir for testosterone-replacement therapy in advance of his title fight with heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146. Mir is the fourth athlete to get a therapeutic-use exemption. Mir, who began taking testosterone in January, met all the testing requirements after applying in March. Among those requirements were five blood tests measuring the fighter’s serum-testosterone level. All fell below the normal range expected in a healthy adult male.
~ Martin Kampmann, Mike Chiesa and John Cofer each earned $40,000 bonuses for their performances tonight at The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale – and Justin Lawrence doubled up with two awards and a total of $80,000. Kampmann and Lawrence each picked up a “Knockout of the Night” bonus, Chiesa picked up the “Submission of the Night” award, and Lawrence and Cofer took home “Fight of the Night” honors. UFC president Dana White announced the winners following the event.
~ UFC officials announced newcomer Brock Jardine (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has replaced injured Papy Abedi (8-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) and now meets fellow welterweight Rick Story (13-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) on June 22. UFC on FX 4 takes place at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The night’s main card airs on FX, and FUEL TV carries the preliminary card.
~ An injury has forced Steve Garcia (9-5) out of an upcoming Legacy Fighting Championship Flyweight title fight with UFC/WEC veteran Will Campuzano (10-4). The event takes place July 13 at Houston’s Arena Theater. The night’s main card airs on HDNet. Campuzano won their 1st fight via decision. Campuzano will remain on the card.
