~ Official fighter weigh-ins for “Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Finale” take place Friday. HP Pavilion’s main concourse in San Jose, Calif., plays host to the festivities, which are free and open to the public. The San Jose venue also plays hosts to next Saturday’s event.
~ UFC bantamweight veteran Joseph Sandoval, 26, made his flyweight debut Friday night in Houston, Texas at Legacy Fighting Championship 11. Sandoval lost to Bellator/Strikeforce veteran Chad Robichaux (12-2) via Submission (North/South Choke) in just 51 seconds. Sandoval (6-3) was released by the UFC following 2 TKO/KO losses in a combined 99 seconds.
~ UFC light-heavyweight veteran Rodney Wallace lost last night at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland. Wallace was KO’d (Punch) by Mamed Khalidov (25-4-2) at 1:55 into Round 1. The bout was part of Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 19. Wallace (12-5) suffered 3 straight decision losses in the UFC.
~ UFC officials announced that “UFC 149: Aldo vs. Koch” has officially sold out of tickets. The event takes place July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight titeholder Jose Aldo meets Erik Koch in the pay-per-view headliner. UFC 149 sold out in quick time. A pre-sale began earlier this week on Thursday, and the general public could purchase tickets Saturday. An estimated 18,000-plus tickets have been sold in the two days they’ve been on sale.
