Detailed Recap of The Ultimate Fighter Live Episode 10

The show begins with James Vick training for his quarterfinal fight against Team Faber’s Joe Proctor. Dana White walks into the gym and asks to meet with everyone. He says when he calls the fighters over its either good news or bad news and it’s all bad news today. He announces Dominick Cruz’s blown ACL and says he is out of the fight against Urijah Faber but will remain as a coach for the rest of the season. Team Cruz was ecstatic about this as Chris Tickle say they will beat Faber by having a Team Cruz member win the tournament
Faber is disappointed and asks who his replacement will be and Dana says “No clue” and will have a name for him next week. Faber says he trains for every fight like it’s a title fight and will be ready no matter who it is. Faber jokingly tells Cruz that he is starting the rumor that Ronda Rousey threw him on his knee
Team Faber Training Session
Faber feels Vick is not very polished while Joe Proctor is very polished and will take advantage when Vick over commits with his boxing. Proctor feels confident no matter where the fight goes and says “This is MMA, not boxing.”
James Vick vs. Joe Proctor
Round 1: They circle at first until Vick gets more comfortable and starts stalking Proctor with punches including a nice shot to the body. Vick is good a great job at using his reach which seems to be throwing off Proctor’s game a little bit. Proctor shoots in for a takedown but Vick stuffs it. Vick clinches with Proctor and throws some knees to the body and pushes him away. Faber is yelling at Proctor to not stay at the end of Vick’s punches. Proctor lands a couple of hard punches to the head and backs away. Vick is controlling the pace and mixing up his punches and kicks. Proctor throws an overhand right and Vick connects with a one-two as the round closes.
Round 2: Proctor comes out aggressive to start the round. Vick has found his range pretty quickly and is working the jab. Proctor shoots in and secures the takedown but Vick gets up but not without Proctor getting the neck. Proctor tries to sink in the choke while standing. Vick gets out and they go back to the ground where Vick gives up side control to bring the fight back to the feet. Proctor is trying but he just can’t get inside of Vick’s reach with the exception of a punch here and there. They both go for broke during the last 10 seconds as Proctor throws while punches as Vick maintains his composure and continues to mix up his punches and kicks to end the round.
Winner: James Vick via unanimous decision (20-18 across the board)
Team Faber Training Session
Michael Chiesa feels he has a better chance standing against Lawrence then Lawrence has on the ground against him. Chiesa feels Lawrence is a little arrogant will knock him off his pedestal.
Team Cruz Training Session
Cruz says the key to victory for Justin Lawrence is to force Chiesa to make bad shots and capitalize. Lawrence says he hates being called a naturally gifted fighter because he had to work for every bit of it. They both want to keep the fight on feet and Cruz admits this is another striker vs. grappler match.
Justin Lawrence vs. Michael Chiesa
Round 1: Lawrence works some faints to start the round but slips and Chiesa locks up the body and works for the takedown. Lawrence grabs the fence and is given a warning by the referee. Chiesa attempts an armbar but Lawrence pulls out of it. Chiesa locks him up in a triangle but it’s not tight enough for the submission and attempts a Kimura. Lawrence is displaying good defense against anything Chiesa attempts from the bottom. Chiesa locks him up in a triangle again and while Lawrence is in no danger from being submitted, he can’t go anywhere and he being hammered with punches and elbows to end the round.
Round 2: They both open the round trading wild strikes and Faber calls for Chiesa to not get crazy while Cruz yells at Lawrence to get his hands up and work faints. Lawrence connects with a right hand that rocks Chiesa. Lawrence throws a kick but Chiesa catches and pushes him against the fence but Lawrence is using excellent balance and won’t go down. Chiesa backs away and they start throwing some tired strikes. Chiesa misses a spinning backfist and Lawrence catches him at the end of the rotation with a right hand. Lawrence drops Chiesa with a left hand to the ribs and Lawrence follows him but Chiesa is able to slow it down somewhat. Lawrence on top but he is unable to finish as the round expires.
Dana White says the judges call for Sudden Victory!
Round 3: Lawrence opens with two body punches and one to the head of Chiesa and scores a takedown. Chiesa gets his body in position to hip sweep Lawrence and end up in full mount. Chiesa just brings the rain with punch after punch until Lawrence covers up and the referee steps in to end it.
Winner: Michael Chiesa via TKO due to punches @1:02 of the 3rd Round
Team Faber celebrates like Chiesa has just won the world title as it was truly a hard fought victory. Next weeks match up are announced as its Team Faber’s Chris Saunders vs. Team Cruz’s Vinc Pichel and Team Faber’s Al Iaquinta against Andy Ogle.
