~ The 230-pound catchweight fight between UFC veterans Seth Petruzelli (14-6 MMA, 1-0 BFC) & Carmelo Marrero (14-5-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) was a late scratch for Bellator 68. Petruzelli said that a doctor wouldn’t clear him to fight because he “heard weezing and fluid in my lungs.” A second doctor concurred with the assessment. “I am so sorry,” Petruzelli wrote. “I feel like I’m in a nightmare.”
~ Former Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Soto broke a 2 fight losing streak on Thursday when he defeated WEC veteran Chad George via Technical Submission (Guillotine) at 2:01 into Round 2. The Bantamweight bout headlined TPF 13: Unfinished Business at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California. Soto is now 11-2 while George falls to 14-7.
~ Thursday’s new edition of “MMA Uncensored Live” – Spike TV’s weekly news-magazine show – scored a series record 567,000 viewers. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal joined the show on the same day he announced a new dual contract that will see compete in Bellator (for MMA) and TNA Impact Wrestling (pro wrestling) on Spike TV. “MMA Uncensored Live” debuted in February, and the series premiere had held the ratings record (547,000) until this week’s episode. The show had been averaging approximately 489,000 viewers per week.
~ UFC/DREAM middleweight veteran Gerald “Hurricane” Harris won last night in Houston, Texas. Harris made his welterweight debut in a split decision win over Mike Bronzoulis (13-5-1). The bout was part of Legacy Fighting Championship 11 & aired on HDNet. Since his UFC release back on November 2010, Harris is 4-1 & moves his record to 21-4.
