CM Punk tells fan to “kill yourself” on Twitter

– After CM Punk told a fan who made a homophobic remark over Twitter to “kill yourself,” he defended his use of the phrase in light of WWE’s anti-bullying campaign. A Twitter user reminded him of the WWE’s “Be a STAR” campaign, saying:

“Telling someone to kill themselves? B A Star. How about creating a positive change instead of civil unrest? Ass.

Punk replied with, “hey moron, don’t try to hide behind the be a star campaign. I am a star. I’m fighting bigots here. Zero tolerance.”

  1. Kerry says:

Hmm. Wonder if Punk will be reprimanded for this exchange?

  2. Mr. Black says:

I agree with punk’s stance, but yeah punk obviously shouldn’t have reacted like that. Think before you tweet. (i.e. Kurt Angle)

  3. -J- says:

    cm punk’s house is sick.

  4. Snow says:

I thought everyone could have their own views? I guess Punk didn’t get that memo and thinks everyone that disagrees with gay marriage is a bigot just like every other liberal on the planet.

Massive amount of respect lost for punk.

  5. Nick says:

So the person not liking gay marriage is a bully, but the person saying go kill yourself isn’t. Right, Punk, right.

  6. Snow says:

@smartbus, either you are trolling or that is your opinion. Either way that is your choice to do so and I’m not going to tell you to kill yourself just because you disagree with an opinion.

  7. N. Gaijin says:

Of course Punk literally meant for the fan to kill himself. No one has ever said something figuratively over the internet, not even now.

  8. Chris James says:

Oh shut up everyone. All of you on your high horses. I suppose none of you have ever said or typed anything abrasive in your lifetimes, huh? Buncha trolls pointing their noses down on one tweet. Hypocrites.

  9. Man says:

What a joke of a “star”!

  10. dave says:

    @chris james – YES!

Punk isn’t right or wrong, believe what you want to, though. Just respect others views without being a condescending jack-ass.

  11. Kerry says:

Chris James – Whether we have or haven’t is irrelevant. We don’t work for a major entertainment company that is pushing an anti bullying campaign, and telling someone to kill themselves can be considered as a form of bullying.

  12. N. Gaijin says:

    @Chris James:
The internet is a den of hypocrites, man, but you are completely correct. In this case, it’s quite laughable as people are being hypocrites as they point out “hypocrisy”. The very same people who criticize WWE for being part of the BA Star campaign are now using it denigrate Punk for making a sarcastically harsh response to a fan. Then you have others who were defending Punk’s “right to free speech” last year when he called a fan at a house show a “homo”, but use that very same clip against him now when it’s conveniences them. Each of these things are used devoid of context just so it comes off looking the worst way possible. It’s all a load of bull.

Not that any of this matters now considering both parties involved have apologized, and the kid who got it all started has deleted all of the relevant tweets.

  13. M.J. Wright says:

Sorry but “Kill Yourself” has been used for the last couple of years as an argument in a heated exchange when you feel someone is wrong. I dont see anything truly offensive with it, but i could see where others would.

  14. jon says:

did anyone see the original tweet that punk responded too? the guy who tweeted it deleted it so he would look innocent. The tweeter told punk and “the gays” to all kill themselves. punk responded back by saying “kill yourself”. Seriously, if you guys didnt see the original tweet from the “fan”, then i’d suggest you shut up.

  15. B-Rad says:

I agree with Punk. Everyone has the right to their opinion and all, but ignorant morons like that fan are a lot of what is so wrong with the world today. And, come on, Punk didn’t LITERALLY want the guy to kill himself.

  16. Deathedge says:

If I recall, didn’t Punk call a fan a “faggot” at a house show? Just saying…

Also, no matter what, you have to handle yourself responsibly in that sort of situation. Hell, telling the guy to just f off would of been a better choice of words.

  17. AJ Starr says:

Perhaps then the bigot shouldn’t have made that remark.

I tell people who speak like that to go play in traffic… go lick a high running egg beater… go stick a fork in a light socket…

Sorry, ZERO TOLERANCE for people like that. The world would be a better place if bigots and losers either kept their mouths shut or didn’t exist.

    I agree with Punk 100%.

  18. Jerrod Moore says:

FREEDOM OF SPEECH,is all I am going to say

  19. AJ Starr says:

Exactly, and unfortunately for those of you against it, if WWE takes any action on Punk, he can sue them.

He said it on his own free time, in his own home.

WWE makes a move on Punk’s free speech, he can take them to the cleaners for it. They don’t own Twitter and cannot punish him for it.

  20. Chris James says:

I will say this.. Punk is the WWE Champion and should’ve just let this one go. But.. On the same token.. He’s CM Punk. And for every 1000 people running him down for his tweet there are 10,000 on his side. As with most things…
