Detailed 5/4/12 WWE Smackdown Recap

-We see the Smackdown opening video and Josh Mathews welcomes us to the show from Toledo, Ohio. We see that we are going to see Brock Lesnar’s attack on Triple H from this past Monday on Raw and get some follow-up information as well as John Laurinaitis’ attack on John Cena.

-Sheamus makes his way to the ring. Shemaus says that he loves to fight and it doesn’t matter where he’s at. He says he was asked if he would fight Daniel Bryan tonight and said yes. He leads the crowd in a “YES!” chant. Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring.

Match #1: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
They tie up and Sheamus gets Bryan in a headlock. Bryan shoves Sheamus off the ropes, but Sheamus comes back with a big shoulder block. Sheamus gets Bryan in another headlock and Bryan shoves him off the ropes again, and drops Sheamus with a drop toe hold. Bryan goes for the YES Lock, but Sheamus counters with a right hand. Bryan connects with an arm breaker and stomps away on Sheamus’ arm in the corner. Bryan drives his knee into Sheamus’ arm and applies a submission. Sheamus powers out and they exchange blows. Sheamus takes control and pounds away on Bryan in the corner. Sheamus clothesline Bryan over the top rope. He turns around and Ricardo Rodriguez hits a cross body off the top rope and the referee calls for the bell. Winner by disqualification: Sheamus. After the match, Alberto Del Rio kicks Sheamus in the head and applies his cross arm breaker submission. Bryan gets back in the ring and applies the YES! Lock on Sheamus. Del Rio and Bryan exchange words as Sheamus rolls out of the ring.

-We see the trainers taking a look at Sheamus’ arm backstage.

Match #2: Camacho and Hunico vs. Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (w/Lil’ Jimmy)
A.W., Epico, Primo, and Rosa Mendes come out to the stage before the match begins. Truth and Hunico start the match. Hunico slaps “Lil’ Jimmy” and Truth takes control of the match and takes Hunico down with a hip toss. Truth tags in Kingston and Kingston connects with a forearm from the middle rope. Hunico sends Kingston to the outside where Camacho connects with a big clothesline. Hunico gets Kingston back in the ring and flips over the top rope onto him. Hunico goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out at two. Hunico tags in Camacho, who comes in the ring and delivers a back drop to Kingston. Camacho hits a leg drop and goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out at two. Camacho pounds on Kingston in the corner and tags in Hunico. Hunico kicks Kingston in the chest while he is in the corner and goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out at two. Kingston tags in Truth and Hunico tags in Camacho. Truth gains the advantage and hits a spinning corkscrew on Camacho. Kingston sends Hunico to the outside with a hurricanrana. Truth plants Camacho with his finisher and gets the pin fall. Winners: R-Truth and Kofi Kingston.

-We see that Brodus Clay vs. Jack Swagger is next.

Match #3: Brodus Clay (w/Cameron and Naomi) vs. Jack Swagger (w/Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero)
Clay opens the match with a belly-to-belly slam on Swagger. Swagger kicks Clay’s knee in the corner and takes the brief advantage, but Clay comes back with a big clothesline. Ziggler distracts Clay and Swagger charges and puts his shoulder into Clay’s midsection. Clay goes to the outside and Ziggler attempts to take him down from the steel steps, but Clay head-butts him in the chest. Swagger tries to take advantage, but Clay catches him and tosses him over his shoulder to the mat. Clay attempts his splash, but Swagger rolls out of the ring. The referee begins the count and makes it to 10. Winner by count-out: Brodus Clay.

-We see that Randy Orton and The Big Show will team up to take on Cody Rhodes and Kane later on tonight and we see again that we will revisit what happened between Laurinaitis and Cena as well.

-We see the highlight package of the Cena/Lesnar match from Extreme Rules and then take a look back at what happened between John Cena and John Laurinaitis this past Monday on Raw.

-We see Daniel Bryan arguing with Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez backstage, with Eve Torres trying to stop them. They argue over the match with Sheamus and Bryan demands that he gets a rematch tonight. Eve says she will talk to the doctors to see if Sheamus can compete and kicks them out of her office.

-We see Damien Sandow walking backstage and he will be in action next.

-Match #4: Damien Sandow vs. Derrick Bateman
Sandow is introduced as “The Savior of the Intellectual Masses.” Sandow grabs a microphone and says that he is not competing tonight because he needs to be a true role model for everyone. He says we would learn nothing if he wrestled a match tonight. He says he’s not wrestling for the benefit of us all.

-Match #4: Derrick Bateman vs. Ryback
Bateman hits Ryback a few times and then charges from the ropes, but Ryback connects with a big boot. Ryback slams Bateman’s head into the mat a few times and then hits him with a sit down neck breaker. Ryback connects with a big clothesline and his finisher for the pin fall. Winner: Ryback.

-We are reminded again of the tag team with Orton and Big Show vs. Rhodes and Kane. It is coming up next.

-Match #5: Cody Rhodes and Kane vs. Randy Orton and The Big Show
Orton and Rhodes start the match. They tie up and Orton gets Rhodes in a headlock. Rhodes sends Orton off the ropes, but Orton connects with a shoulder block. Orton hits a clothesline and goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out at one. Orton tags in Show, who chops Rhodes across the chest. Show smashes Rhodes in the corner and slams him to the mat. Show tags in Orton, who hits a knee drop and goes for the cover, but Rhodes kicks out at one. Orton connects with a dropkick and goes for the cover again, but Rhodes kicks out at one. Rhodes gets a quick uppercut on Orton and tags in Kane. Kane and Orton slug it out and Kane takes Orton down with a knee lift. Kane pounds away on Orton in the corner, but Orton reverses with a knee and tags in Show. Show comes in and spears Kane and turns his attention to Rhodes. He brings Rhodes in the ring and chops him. Rhodes rolls to the outside and Show turns his attention back to Kane. Show pounds on Kane in the corner and sends him off the ropes, but Kane counters with a DDT. Kane makes the tag to Rhodes during the break, and Rhodes is stomping away on Show. Rhodes tags in Kane, who stands on Show’s throat in the corner. Kane comes off the ropes as Show gets to his knees and connects with a big dropkick. Kane goes for the cover, but Show grabs the ropes at two. Kane applies a headlock, but Show powers out and slams Kane to the mat. Orton and Rhodes are tagged in and Orton connects with a couple of clothesline and a power slam. Orton sets Rhodes up for his middle rope DDT, but Kane clocks Orton with a right hand. Kane tags himself in and gets a DDT of his own for his troubles. Orton goes for the RKO, but Kane shoves him off and Rhodes pulls down the top rope, sending Orton to the floor. Kane goes out after Orton and catches him with a big boot and then tosses him back into the ring. Kane goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Kane tags in Rhodes, who drops a knee to Orton’s head and goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two again. Rhodes pounds away on Orton in the corner before Orton reverses, but Rhodes reverses again and connects with a dropkick and goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Rhodes tags in Kane who pounds on Orton in the corner. He sends Orton to the opposite corner, but Orton reverses with an elbow and then a neck breaker. Kane takes Orton down with a clothesline and tags in Rhodes, who goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Rhodes applies a submission, but Orton powers out. Rhodes took advantage and went for Cross Rhodes, but Orton reversed with a back body drop. Orton tags in Show, who takes Rhodes down with a couple of clotheslines and a back body drop. Show sets Rhodes up for a chokeslam, but Kane comes off the top rope and takes Show down. Orton comes into the ring and RKO’s Kane, but Rhodes slams Orton shoulder-first into the ring post. Rhodes goes for the Disaster Kick on Show, but Show chops Rhodes across the chest as he is coming off of the rope. Show hits Rhodes with the WMD punch for the pin fall. Winners: The Big Show and Randy Orton.

-We see Matt Striker standing outside of the training room. Sheamus walks out and says he is still going to fight tonight.

-Match #6: Layla vs. Natalya
The match started with a lot of mat work with the Divas exchanging submission holds. They exchange arm wrenches and Natalya takes Layla down with a right hand. Natalya connects with a clothesline and goes for the cover, but Layla kicks out at two. Layla connects with a neck breaker and gets the pin fall. Winner: Layla.

-We see Aksana and Antonio Cesaro taking part in a publicity photo shoot backstage. Eve makes Teddy Long rub oil on Antonio.

-We see that we will revisit Brock Lesnar’s attack on Triple H next.

-We see Alicia Fox and Kaitlyn backstage when A.J. walks up. A.J. apologizes for slapping her last week. Kaitlyn tells A.J. to end her “pity party” for Daniel Bryan. A.J. slaps Kaitlyn again and walks away.

-We see the Raw Rebound, which is completely focused on what happened between Brock Lesnar and Triple H.

-Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez make their way to the ring and will be sitting ringside for the main event tonight. Del Rio will be joining the commentary team as well.

-Match #7: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
Bryan tries to go for Sheamus’ arm, but Sheamus connects with a right hand that sends Bryan down to the mat. Sheamus backs Bryan into the corner and connects with some elbows, but Bryan reverses and tosses Sheamus into the corner and goes to work on his arm. Bryan keeps control of the match and works on Sheamus’ arm for a few minutes before Sheamus reverses and hits Bryan with a back breaker. Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, but Bryan ducks and Sheamus goes over the top rope but hangs on. Bryan dropkicks Sheamus’ shoulder and Sheamus goes to the floor. Bryan drapes Sheamus’ shoulder over the rope and kicks him to the floor again. Bryan goes out after him and shoves him into the ring post. Bryan tosses Sheamus back into the ring and hits a diving head-butt from the top rope. Bryan goes for the cover, but Sheamus kicks out at two. Bryan continues to work on Sheamus’ arm, but Sheamus powers out and connects with some elbows. Sheamus slams Bryan shoulder-first into the ring post, and does his signature ten clubbing blows to Bryan’s chest. He does a second round of the ten blows and brings Bryan back into the ring. Sheamus goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Sheamus connects with a back breaker and goes for the cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Sheamus drops his knee into Bryan’s face, but Bryan counters and drapes Sheamus’ arm over the top rope. Bryan goes to the top rope and connects with a dropkick and goes for the cover, but Sheamus kicks out at two. Bryan stomps away on Sheamus but Sheamus comes back with a big clothesline. Del Rio tries to interfere, but Sheamus tosses Bryan into Del Rio. Bryan goes to the top rope and jumps off, but Sheamus connects with the Brogue Kick for the pin fall. Winner: Sheamus. Alberto and Sheamus have a stare-down after the match.
