Changes in store in wake of Lesnar tirade at Extreme Rules

Changes are in store after what happened with John Cena and Brock Lesnar following their match at the 4/29 Extreme Rules event. With a lot of fingers being pointed, Vince McMahon now wants more rehearsals and the writers and producers and well as production people were told he wants more communication.

One person close to the process expects that the content will be more rigidly scripted and Vince is going to have to approve just about everything.

Well its better than booking on the fly like they were. Hopefully they learn so its not like WCW all over again.

  2. Deathedge says:

    The writers suck to begin with… just saying. =_=;

Anybody notice that the Cena/Lesar promo/hissy-fit seems to go from Planned to Not Planned every day?

When it was first reported it was said that Cena’s promo was a shoot & that Lesnars tantrum was legit, then the next day it was reported that they both were a work (Vince’s idea) to try and get the internet talking. Then it flipped back and forth for a few days and now it’s basically being reported that Vince knew nothing about them before they happened…..

Personally I’d rather see things less scripted, well less scripted by the writers/Vince. Let the wrestlers work together to figure out how they want the storylines to develop & promos to go.

Soooo was the cena speech thing a work and such or what…they do need to work on the whole damn product, last raw was highly sh*tty.

  5. Dave K says:

Looking back, wasn’t HHH demoted for getting involved with talent physically but yet GM Johnny is doing the same thing and it’s ok?

  6. David says:

Couldn’t agree more. Let the wrestlers work together and have a much bigger say in how the storylines develop and promos go. After all there getting paid good money, shouldn’t they get to say which way they want to develop a storyline? The writers aren’t doing great anyway.

  7. Urvy says:

I think these changes are necessary IMO, so future tantrums can be prevented.

  8. Kevin says:

    More trouble than he’s worth.

  9. James says:

I don’t think Lesnar should throw a fit, but I also understand why he got mad. Cena should have stayed with the script. Lesnar pummeled him throughout that match, then Cena wins with two hits and makes a departure speech? Yeah, that isn’t right.

Lesnar’s pretty much the only thing keeping me watching WWE at the moment so hopefully the pick up the pace and refine their stories better.

  10. Oliver says:

Finally. Put some order back in the shows and stop changing the plan so often.

  11. AJ Starr says:

James, all Lesnar had to do was attack Cena after the speech. Brock did it to himself. For any wrestler to expect a 100%, by the book, word for word and movement by movement scripting at any time is absolutely stupid on the wrestler’s part.

I can guarantee you, that someone high up told Cena to make that speech and wait for Brock, but Brock never moved. Then, instead of admitting what they did, they just patted Brock on the back and said “I don’t understand what happened” just to get him to calm down.

Anytime I’ve been booked to attack, or to get attacked, all we get is; “after the match this one beats down the other.” We’re supposed to get ourselves there. I highly doubt considering the WWE’s schedule and obvious lack of direction, that they had that entire scenario planned out move for move.

    Honestly, it’s getting so it’s not even amusing to make fun of the WWE any more;

it seems like there’s a big difference between an “unscripted” event in a main event of a PPV featuring the return of a guy who hasn’t been in the ring in 8 years, and a normal match.

But if Vince wants to sign off on every letter uttered by his talent (or should that be “parrots”?) why not just do what Conan O’Brien used to do:

have all promos appear on the Titantron as a still photograph of the wrestler’s face, with Vince McMahon’s mouth digitally inserted over their mouth, reading the promo himself.

  13. JD Storm says:

makes me long for the days where wrestlers used to have more control over the in-ring product. i honestly miss the days where the promoters generally controlled the big points, like who would win a match or who would win a title….stuff along those lines. the wrestlers should be trusted with far more details, like how they laid out a match or how they got a segment across on tv.

  14. AJ Starr says:

    That’s why today wrestling sucks.

No one in WWE management can tell me Stone Cold, Hogan, Warrior, Savage or ANYONE ELSE would’ve made it big being told what to do with a script.

They effectively killed off Zack Ryder. The guy was being cheered enough to be the next big up and comer towards the Main Event, so they jobbed him out and had him “break his back.”

But hey, if they want to lose tons of money in merchandising because they don’t want to run with the ball they’re being handed, they can lose money, fans, and viewers. It’s no one’s fault but their own.

  15. Hipnosis says:

Vince McMahon finally taking control again? About damn time lol

  16. rob says:

Imagine if they implemented this at Survivor Series … it would have results in a WrestleMania card that made more sense. How did Teddy Long get involved with Johnny Ace again? I would have rather seen Laurinaitis lead a team against Triple H … plus so many other more logical changes could have been made to the most memorable card of the year.

  17. Look At Him says:

    Future of WWE?

The hologram used for the tupac concert.

Vince will use them and it will be ultra scripted & ultra predictable.
