~ UFC middleweight veteran Wilson Gouveia (14-8) secured his 2nd straight victory on Friday, exactly 3 months from his last one, at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Gouveia defeated Kyle Keeney in just 50 seconds via TKO (Leg Kick & Punches). The bout main evented Fight Time 9 – MMA Explosion. Gouveia went 6-4 in his UFC career.
~ UFC/PRIDE light-heavyweight veteran Dean Lister (12-7) fought for the first time in more than two years and earned a third-round heel-hook victory over Rodney Moore (7-8) at Saturday’s Cage Contender 13 event in Northern Ireland. Lister hadn’t competed since December 4, 2009. Lister went 4-2 in the UFC.
~ Former UFC heavyweight veteran Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague returned to MMA on Saturday in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Hague defeated Craig Hudson via KO (Punch) at 2:06 into Round 1. The bout was part of King of the Cage – Unified. Hague, who holds an unflattering 1-4 UFC record, improves to 14-5.
~ Former Strikeforce title challenger and U.S. Marine Liz Carmouche (6-2) rebounded from Strikeforce losses to Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman with a first-round TKO victory over overmatched Ashleigh Cury (1-1). Carmouche unloaded heavy ground and pound to get the stoppage at the 1:58 mark of the opening round. The bout occurred at the Historic Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS.
~ UFC vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner will serve as chairman of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s newly-formed technical committee. IMMAF officials recently announced the formation of the committee, as well as Ratner’s involvement. “I’m very honored to work with the IMMAF and help with formulating guidelines and instituting the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts throughout the world,” Ratner stated. “As the chairman of the technical committee, our mission will be to have the same rules and medical standards wherever MMA is happening.” According to IMMAF officials, the technical committee “will have the task of researching and analyzing best practice in the area of MMA regulations for the purpose of future IMMAF recommendations and rule sets.”
