Blog: Extreme Rules Preview/Predictions will have live coverage of tonight’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

United States Championship
Santino Marella (c) vs. The Miz

It’s ridiculous to think that at this time last year, Miz was heading into this event as the WWE Champion. Considering this match is not on the PPV card, and takes place on Youtube during the pre-show, I don’t see them taking the strap off of Santino.
Winner: Santino Marella retains

Divas Championship
Nikki Bella (c) vs. Beth Phoenix

Nikki will retain the title in this match, likely exploiting Beth’s “injury” setting up Kharma to return to take the belt off of her sometime in the very near future — the Bellas’ contracts are rumored to be ending soon.
Winner: Nikki Bella retains

Randy Orton vs. Kane
Falls Count Anywhere

In what’s also likely to be the blowoff of this feud, Orton will get revenge for Wrestlemania and go over clean on Kane.
Winner: Randy Orton

Intercontinental Championship
Stipulation TBD
Big Show (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

With this likely the blowoff, and I’d expect Cody to move on to bigger and brighter things throughout the course of this summer, I’m picking Big Show to retain and for Cody to move on to bigger things. The stipulation of this match will be determined on the Youtube pre-show, via a spin wheel.
Winner: Big Show retains

World Heavyweight Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Best of Three Falls

I hope this match gets some time. The pair are likely to split the first two falls, with what I believe will be AJ costing Bryan the third, and Sheamus will retain. It will be interesting to see if AJ tries to “help” Bryan, only to have it backfire, or to see if they go in a different direction, and just have AJ outright screw the former champ.
Winner: Sheamus retains

WWE Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho
Chicago Street Fight

Going out on a limb here and am going to pick Jericho. Last time WWE was in Chicago for a PPV, Punk defeated Cena for the WWE Championship and the crowd exploded into a frenzy. This time? WWE will use that to its advantage, with Jericho picking up a cheap win and all the heat that comes with it. The crowd will be on FIRE from the intros for this match, and with two of the best in the business, expect fireworks.
Winner: Chris Jericho wins WWE Championship

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena
Extreme Rules Match

By far, this match is the toughest to call. I could make a really strong argument for either man to walk away the victor.
Brock Lesnar is the new man in town, and you can’t have him lose in his re-debut with the company. Not if you want him to remain strong. John Cena is coming off a clean loss to Rock at Wrestlemania, a few beatdowns from Lesnar on Raw as well as a 1-2-3 loss to Lord Tensai on Raw. He’s been putting guys over for close to a month. Maybe Cena doesn’t need the wins to remain strong, but at some point, he needs to pickup some shine and a win over Brock Lesnar is a HUGE shine.
It’s Extreme Rules, so we’re not supposed to get a disqualification. But I could see this match — or fight, as Lesnar needs calling it — ended by ref stoppage (UFC style) or by some sort of big schmoz with Laurinaitis, Tensai, Otunga and other stooges making a run-in, that way both guys are kept without the defeat on their record.
A lot will depend on where the match is placed on the card. I’d expect it to go on last, but how many times can they cut the WWE Championship short of the main-event spot?
I’d like to see WWE try to get these guys on earlier if possible. Maybe a locker room brawl spills out into the arena and Laurinaitis says “you can’t wait? Fine, you’re match is up now!” Or, with things being “on Brock’s terms” maybe Brock goes into Johnny’s office, doesn’t want to wait, and we get the match early.
But back to my prediction? It’s all just a guess, because I honestly see it as being 50/50. I’ll give a slight edge to Lesnar, being made to look strong on his re-debut, especially being touted as bringing “legitimacy” back to WWE. It’s hard to bring “legitimacy” and being a monster if you lose your first match ….
Winner: Brock Lesnar
