~ In the main event of Thursday’s “KOTC: Hardcore” event in California, Tony Lopez (31-8) defended his heavyweight title for the second time in 12 days with a first-round TKO of Jason Walraven (4-2). At “KOTC: Bad Intentions 2″ on April 14, he also scored a third-round TKO victory over Cody East (3-1). Lopez has fought for M-1, EliteXC, the WEC and Bellator, & currently carries a seven-fight win streak.
~ UFC welterweight veteran Peter Sobotta (10-4-1) was victorious on Friday in Spodek, Katowice, Poland. Sobotta submitted (Rear Naked Choke) Juan Manuel Suarez at 2:18 into the first round. The bout occurred at MMA Attack 2. Sobotta is 2-0-1 since his UFC release in November 2010 following 3 straight unanimous decision losses in the UFC.
~ UFC/Bellator welterweight veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida (14-6) picked up his third straight win after tapping out Jeremy Hamilton (8-2) via third-round rear-naked choke in the headliner of Saturday’s Cage Fighting Extreme 33 event in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Yoshida was released by the UFC in May 2010 following a 2-3 record with the promotion.
~ Marloes Coenen emerged victorious in the headliner of Invicta Fighting Championships’ debut event. Coenen (20-5) posted a unanimous-decision victory over Romy Ruyssen (5-2) at the all-female promotion’s first show, which took place Saturday at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event streamed on the organization’s website. It marked the first fight for Coenen since she lost her Strikeforce bantamweight title to Miesha Tate this past July.
~ Fresh off a submission victory on Friday, Bellator heavyweight veteran Damian “Polish Pitbull” Grabowski (15-1) will head to Casino Rama, Rama, Ontario, Canada to face Dave Huckaba (17-4) on the undercard of Bellator 67. The bout will air on Spike.com.
