Episode 8: The Lions Den
After a quick recap of Vinc Pichel’s submission win over John Cofer we go to the team locker rooms. Team Cruz is happy as can by while Cofer can’t hold back the tears of defeat. Faber tries to comfort him but it dose no good.
Team Cruz Training Session #1
Ronda Rousey walks into the training center with Cruz and announces they are going to train in some Judo with Rousey. She demonstrates some sweeps and proper technique and position. All of the fighters are impressed with Rousey. Faber and gets into a quick verbal sparring session with Cruz as he leaves the training center with Rousey. Faber says hi to Rousey and Cruz tells him to “Go work on over hand rights and guillotines because that is all you got”.
Back at the house the guys are getting ready for their personal UFC 145 Jones vs. Evans viewing party and Ronda Rousey becomes the first woman to enter the TUF house….but you couldn’t tell because everyone was ignoring her and making sure there was a lot of space between them. Faber and Cruz were shocked that none of them would talk to her.
Team Faber Training Session #1
Chris Saunders is kind of a Urijah Faber fanboy. After they spar he is estatic he went a couple of rounds with Faber and Urijah is like “Dude, who am I? I’m not on some pedestal.” Faber states that Saunders has great dexterity in his legs which helps his stand up tremendously. Saunders talks about his difficult upbringing in different foster homes.
The house shenanigans continue with Chris Tickle taping the faucet sprayer to spray water when it is turned on and water catches some fighters in the face while Mike Rio could not care less about his chapstick being superglued to the nightstand. Just don’t mess with his hair. Oh yeah, boxer-briefs are placed in the freezer.
Team Cruz Training Session #2
Sam Sicilia has been impressing coach Cruz despite being green. Cruz feels Sicilia has knockout power in both hands which should lead him to victory.
Team Faber Training Session #2
Urijah Faber decides to turn the Team Cruz locker room into their own little gym and conduct the day’s workout. They move furniture out and workout equipment in. They are all working out in just their underwear. Dominick Cruz walks in during the training session and Cruz states that “Faber is just looking for an excuse to have his shirt off on TV”.
Sicilia – 155 lbs Saunders – 155 lbs
Chris Saunders (9-2) vs. Sam Sicilia (10-0)
Round 1: Sicilia comes in with a punch and a knee and presses Saunders against the cage. Saunders lands two knees, reverses and escapes. Sicilia is the one applying pressure with several punches and is taken down, only to get right back up. Saunders misses a Superman punch but catches Sicilia with a kick to the head that drops him but Sicilia regains his composure. Sicilia gets back up and starts swinging wild and wide haymakers and pushes Saunders against the fence and secures the takedown. Saunders gets back up as the horn sounds.
Round 2: Sicilia comes out with some more wide punches that Saunders avoids. Sicilia presses Saunders against the cage. Cruz is screaming for Sicilia to attempt a single leg takedown but it never comes and Cruz is pissed. Sicilia lands a kick to the body and a right hand followed by a left that hurts Saunders. Sicilia swarms with punches but can’t finish. Sicilia secures the takedown but Saunders reverses it and has his back. Sicilia escapes and Sicilia drops Saunders with a left hand but it is Saunders who ends up on top during the scramble. Both fighters are extremely tired and breathing deep. Saunders lands an elbow and takes Sicilia’s back but he escapes and he back on his feet. Sicilia lands the last big punch of the round as the horn sounds and both fighter have their arms raised laying claim to victory.
Winer: Chris Saunders via split decision.
Dana White announces the last fight of the quarterfinals which will be Team Faber’s Andy Ogle against Team Cruz’s Mike Rio.
