~ Legacy Fighting Championship has signed UFC Brazilian veteran Junior Assunção to a multi-fight deal. Junior (13-5), a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, has fought at lightweight and now competes at featherweight. He was released by the UFC after losing to Ross Pearson at UFC 141. The loss snapped a 7 fight winning streak. He’s gone 2-3 in two separate stints with the UFC.
~ UFC/Bellator heavyweight veteran Eddie “The Manic Hispanic” Sanchez (13-6) lost last night in Spodek, Katowice, Poland in the main event of MMA Attack 2. He was submitted (Kimura) by Bellator veteran Damian Grabowski (15-1) at 2:02 into Round 2. Sanchez went 3-3 in over 2 years with the UFC during 2006-2008.
~ UFC light-heavyweight veteran Marvin “Beastman” Eastman won last night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Eastman defeated Dmitry Zabolotny via unanimous decision. The main event bout was held at Ring of Combat 40. Eastman, 40, moves his record to 18-14-1.
~ In the 7th fight held last night at the TUF Live show, Team Faber’s Chris Saunders defeated Team Cruz’s Sam Sicilia via split decision. The bout was action-packed & saw Faber take a 4-3 lead heading into the final quarterfinal bout, which sees Andy Ogle (Faber) against Mike Rio (Cruz).
~ Top welterweight contender Nick Diaz will be allowed to corner his brother Nate on May 5 against Jim Miller in the main event of UFC on FOX 3 in East Rutherford, NJ. Diaz is currently embroiled with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) in a legal battle.
