~ Every one of UFC on FUEL TV 2′s 24 fighters underwent drug testing at March’s UFC on FX 2 event tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational/drugs of abuse. UFC vice president of government and regulatory affairs Marc Ratner confirmed the drug-testing results. The event was regulated by the Swedish MMA Federation. While most commissions test main-event fighters along with a few random winners from the event, the Swedish MMA Federation elected to test all 24 fighters.
~ Official fighter weigh-ins for next month’s “UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs. Miller” event take place on Friday, May 4. IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J., hosts both the weigh-ins and the following night’s FOX- and FUEL TV-broadcast event. The weigh-ins begin at 4 p.m. ET, and doors open to the general public at 3 p.m. ET.
~ UFC/Strikeforce/PRIDE middleweight veteran Phil Baroni (14-14) will attempt to move his record above .500 next Saturday in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as he faces Martin Grandmont (12-6). The bout is set for Instinct MMA 4. Baroni’s career UFC record is 3-7. He’s recently spent time commentating for India’s Super Fight League.
~ UFC lightweight veteran Din Thomas (25-8) will make his return to MMA after a 2 year layoff when he faces Cody Bollinger (12-2) on May 12 in Plains, Pennsylvania. Thomas now competes at featherweight & has won his last 3 fights. The bout occurs at Pure MMA, LLC 2. Thomas holds a 5-4 career UFC record.
~ 2 weeks from today, former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie “C4″ Varner (19-6-1) has replaced Alex Morono (4-1) and now meets Lee King (16-16-1) in a 160-pound catchweight fight at next month’s Legacy Fighting Championships 11 event. LFC 11 takes place May 11 at Houston’s Arena Theater. Varner vs. King is one of seven bouts airing on HDNet. Varner is a UFC veteran as well.
