Episode 6: Weather the Storm
After a recap of Chris Tickle loss to Massachusetts native Joe Proctor on last weeks episode, Dominick Cruz browbeats Tickle in the locker room. Cruz keeps repeating that he didn’t listen and he shouldn’t have lost that fight. Tickle says he understands but Cruz vehemently tells him that in order to understand, you have to listen so shut up and listen. He says he hates losing and hates losing to that idiot (Pointing at Faber) more than anything. Urijah Faber tells Tickle he did a great job and not to let anyone get him down and Cruz just goes off on him for talking to his fighter.
“Faber, I just want you to know that nobody cares what you have to say. Why don’t you just get out of here? You look like a bum, you dress like a bum, nobody cares what you have to say. You’ve had four title fights, you lost all of them, you lost all of them in the last year. You haven’t won one in the last year. You haven’t won one in the last year. You’re insignificant. The things you say don’t matter. You’re irrelevant. What did I do? What did I do? I won the title. You’re irrelevant. Quit talking. Go get in your grandpa’s Mercedes and go home. Tuck your tail between your legs and relax. How about you let me coach my guys and you do your thing. Exactly, peace out.”
Dominick Cruz walks back into the locker room and says to Tickle I’m sorry if anything I said offended you but it had to be said…What, you disagree. Tickle tells him to never question his heart because he left his daughter to be here. Cruz squashes it by complimenting his skills. Life in the house is getting to Andy Ogle as he shares a nightmare he had about his girlfriend being murdered in the woods behind the TUF house and that it was in all of the newspapers.
Team Faber Training Session #1
Faber can’t understand why Chris Saunders was the last pick of the show because he is very talented and is just a step or two away from putting it all together. Faber enjoys working with Andy Ogle but notices how he tends to get down on himself. Ogle rushes into the bathroom and slams the door on the camera man and punks in the toilet. Faber checks on him and it looks like Ogle is having trouble breathing. Not sure if it was mental of physical. Faber gives him the rest of the day off and tells him to rest.
Team Cruz Training Session #1
Vinc Pichel says he got the nickname “Hell” because of the trouble he got into as a kid. He also says he hid his MMA training from his Mother for awhile. Cruz is impressed with Pichel’s ability to pop back up as soon as he is taken down and loves his punching combinations. Pichel, however, has a difficult time sparing with teammate James Vick. Meanwhile, Sam Sicilia is feeling enormous pressure to get better because he was the second overall pick. Cruz reminds him that he doesn’t know it all and he is on the show to get better by training with a world championship team.
Team Faber Training Session #2
John Cofer says he’s been wrestling since high school and gave up his 3rd grade teaching job to be on the show. Faber tells him Team Cruz is expecting a wrestling attack and needs to work on his striking. Andy Ogle is paranoid as hell and accuses Michael Chiesa is playing both side and feeding Sam Sicilia info. Chiesa denies is and Ogle says the house is getting to him and it makes people say the stupidest things.
John Cofer – 156 lbs
Vinc Pichel – 154 lbs
Dana White meets with the contestants and tells them they are one week away from being on the show longer than any cast member in the history of TUF and this is the time where people start to crack. He tells them to remember why they are here when the house gets to them. He mentions Rashad Evans winning TUF in 2005 and tells them their sacrifice will pay off in the end.
Round 1: They spend the first 30 second feeling each other out until Cofer lands an over hand right, body kick and grabs a single leg but Pichel pushes off. Pichel lands a couple of jabs which keep Cofer at bay for a bit. Pichel has better technique with his punches and while Cofer is the more powerful striker, he can’t find his range. Pichel throws a body kick but Cofer catches his leg but fails to take him down but lands a hard right hand to Pichel’s jaw. Pichel stuffs another takedown and they fight in close against the cage for the last 30 seconds throwing wild punches to end the round.
Round 2: Cofer rocks Pichel early but can’t pull the trigger. Pichel rocks Cofer against the fence and lands two solid punches but Cofer loses his mouth piece and referee Josh Rosenthal steps in to put it back in place. Cofer shoots for a takedown at the waist level but Pichel will just not go down. Pichel shoots in for a takedown of his own but Cofer catches his neck for a guillotine but Pichel pops his head out. Pichel shoots for a single leg takedown but Cofer grabs his neck for another guillotine but Pichel picks him up and drops him to the mat while ending up in full mount but in the opposite position. Pichel can’t do anything with it. Pichel hears the 10 second clap and pounds on Cofer’s ribs to close out round.
The judges score it one round a piece which means sudden victory round.
Round 3: It dosen’t take long at all for Pichel to takedown Cofer and secures a head and arm triangle choke for the tap out.
Winner: Vinc Pichel via submission at 0:44 of the 3rd Round.
Dana White is ecstatic about how the fight turned and Dominick Cruz has regained control of the fight picks. Cruz selects Chris Saunders from team Faber and Sam Siclia from his team to square off next week.
