Daniel Bryan on losing in seconds at Wrestlemania 28

Reported by Adam Martin of

GQ Magazine is featuring an interview with WWE star Daniel Bryan where he talks about his short match at Wrestlemania 28 and whether or not he was angry about it.

“I was World Heavyweight Champion for four months. I wanted to go out there and steal the show. I was trained by Shawn Michaels, and that’s what he’s notorious for. I’ve always had the mindset that my wrestling is as good as or better than anybody out there. I was really looking forward to going out there and showing everybody what I can do on the biggest stage of them all, and then I just wasn’t able to do it. There wasn’t much of a conversation. This is my job, you know? You have to do something, and even if you don’t like it, that’s what you do. But you go out there and do the best that you can. I went out and did the best entrance I could possibly do. You just do your best; that’s all anybody can do.

I would like to have a more aggressive side to my character. Losing the World Heavyweight Championship in 18 seconds, storyline or not, is going to anger somebody. If you’ve been champion for four months and you lose it in 18 seconds on what’s kind of a cheap shot, you’re going to be a little bit angry. I’d like to amp up the more aggressive side of my character in that sense. But as far as what happens from here, who knows? I’m hoping that the fans keep getting behind me. Even if they do the “Yes!” chant in a mocking sense, I want them to see me in the same light that they’ve seen me before, as one of the main event guys on Smackdown.”

Such a waste. a full match would’ve helped both of them regardless of outcome. This match actually had alot of anticipation from the online community due to it being the pre-show match at last years mania. I along with countless other saw this as a true slap in the face.

Shawn Michaels is notorious for a lot of things.

  3. Anony-mouse says:

Regal trained Bryan… Michaels’ school was just the location.

  4. Steveoreno says:

Yes Anony-mouse. Daniel Bryan doesn’t know what he is talking about. He must have missed that part when he wasn’t trained by Michaels. He was probably just confused. God some of you “smarks” just kill me.

  5. bah says:

He was trained by both Michaels and Regal. A wrestler can have had more than one trainers, you know. Silly mouse.

  6. Drew says:

Do I respect Bryan for all that he does? Yes! Yes! Yes!

  7. Chris James says:

Vince has final say right? I guess it was his way of sticking it to the Indy guys that all think they’re god’s gift to wrestling. McMahon decides their fate. Not their own opinions on self entitlement. And I like Bryan…

  8. Eric says:

By the way… His character was billed as being trained as Shawn Michaels school, which they play off that Michaels was ever actually in.ring with them. Regal and Rudy trained in ring with Bryan. Shawn got his students the contracts with WWE.. as told by a “smark” who’s been watching him since ’02 and listened to shoots with eveybody mentioned above.
