Wrestlemania 28 does strong numbers in social media

WWE wanted WrestleMania XXVIII to be the biggest social media event of the year and they pretty much set what they hoped they would do according to At one point during the pay-per-view, WWE had seven of the top nine worldwide trending topics on Twitter and also generated 110 worldwide trends throughout the show. WWE released their social stats to Mashable, with Jason Hoch, WWE’s Senior Vice President of Digital, saying that the whole week was a blast and how special it was for the fans to connect with their brand. The WrestleMania content exclusively uploaded to YouTube generated 3.9 million views throughout the week and this year WWE did the pre-show live on YouTube and also the press conference which was streamed on the Google-owned video company. The hashtag #WrestleMania scored big on Twitter and was mentioned over 610,000 times on the day of the show with WWE.COM delivering a 30% increase in traffic over the same period last year during WrestleMania. “To me, it raises the bar for a lot of other players out there,” Hoch said. “We’ve learned a lot from things like the Super Bowl and Grammys, and I think our holistic approach this year really raised the bar for a lot of organizations. But it’s just the start for us.”
