~ WEC Bantamweight veteran Frank Gomez lost last Saturday to featherweight prospect Chris Gruetzemacher (9-1) in El Paso, Texas. Gomez (10-5) was beaten va TKO (Punches) at 3:25 of the 1st round. The bout was on the preliminary portion of Worldwide MMA 1 who donated proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.
~ UFC veteran and TUF season 5 winner Nate Diaz received his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt from Cesar Gracie on Thursday. Cesar Gracie has also awarded black belts to other UFC welterweight Nick Diaz and Jake Shields.
~ UFC/PRIDE lightweight vet Marcus Aurelio (21-9) has signed with Legacy Fighting Championships Aurelio, a 10-year pro, fought just twice in 2010 and once in 2011. Most recently, the former PRIDE title challenger and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt submitted Matt McGrath at a regional show in Canada. It marked his third win and four fights and improved his post-UFC record to 5-2.
~ UFC middleweight veteran & season 4 Ultimate Fighter cast-member Edwin “Babyface” Dewees (37-15, 1 No-Contest) returns to MMA at Maximum Fighting Championship 33: Collision Course when he faces Luke Harris (8-1). MFC 33 happens on Friday, May 4 from the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Dewees lost all 3 of his UFC bouts by stoppage.
