~ UFC/Bellator heavyweight veteran Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle lost on Saturday at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, TX to Brian Heden. Heden defeated McCorkle via TKO (Punches) at in the 2nd round to snap the 6 fight winning streak of “Big Sexy”. The super-heavyweight bout headlined Worldwide MMA 1. McCorkle’s record is now 16-3.
~ The Ultimate Fighter 9 participant Richie Whitson dropped to 11-3 with a submission (Armbar) loss to lightweight Danny Van Bergen in only 79 seconds on Saturday in Kallang, Singapore. The bout was part of One Fighting Championsip 3 – War of the Lions. Whitson was part of Dan Henderson’s US Team on season 9 of the reality program.
~ UFC welterweight veteran Pete “Secret Weapon” Spratt defeated PRIDE vet Daniel Acacio via unanimous decision on Saturday at the Amazon Forest Combat 2 event. The bout was held in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. Spratt, 41, was stepping into the bout on just over a week’s notice & improved to 25-21.
~ UFC veteran Koji Oishi dropped to 21-9-9 yesterday as he was beaten by Isao Kobayashi via unanimous decision. The lightweight bout occurred at Pancrase – Progress Tour 4 in Tokyo, Japan. This was a rematch as Oishi won the first bout, also via unanimous decision. Oishi made his MMA debut at UFC – Ultimate Japan & lost to Nick Diaz in June 2005. The loss snapped Oishi’s 8 bout unbeaten streak.
~ Rodrigo Lima (9-0 MMA, 0-0 BFC) vs. Hiroshi Nakamura (14-5-4 MMA, 0-0 BFC) in a bantamweight quarterfinal bout is set for the main card of Bellator 64. Bellator 64 takes place Friday at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
