Staff Wrestlemania predictions – The Rock vs. John Cena

The Starman: I’m going back and forth in this match as I can see either one walking away as the winner. I have to side with John Cena, which will set up the “Once in a Lifetime Rematch” next year at WrestleMania 29.

Dave Kilgore: After all the trash talking, after all the hype, it comes down to who has more to gain. With the rumored rematch of being there for WM29, one has to wonder how they could write this year’s match to lead into next year’s match. But I see this one going back and forth, with possible interference from the Miz (after all, both men took it to the Miz at Survivor Series), with Rock coming out on top and the main event of WM29 NOT being Rock/Cena II.

Michael Riba: The match that was made a year ago will finally take place. This has been on many people’s “Dream Match” list for years now, including my own. This match will go 30+ minutes, and in that time frame I’m almost positive we will see a ref bump, some dirty tactics from both men, and eventually some interference from none other than The Miz. Who The Miz helps, or if he attacks both men, is tough to predict. In the end, it is my belief that The Rock should do the right thing and put Cena over and pass the torch on, much like Hogan did for The Rock at WrestleMania X8. However, with the rumors of a second match between these two taking place in the future, I don’t know if that would happen. I think it would, I’m 98% sure, but there’s still that 2% of me that thinks The Rock will go over. I’m going with the 98%.
Prediction: John Cena

Steven Matthews: With this being The Rock’s first match at WrestleMania since WrestleMania XX, being one year in the making and being in The Rock’s hometown of Miami, it should come as no surprise that this match closes the show. I was a fan of The Rock during his time with the WWE but in my opinion he’s not much better that John Cena in the ring. I’m not totally sold on this match but I look at it like Cena vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 22. The crowd’s reaction was so wild that it made that match one of my favorites. I think the crowd would blow the roof off if there was one. I’m going with The Rock to win this match, send the fans home happy but we should all be prepared for Rock facing Cena later this year or even at WrestleMania 29.

Amanda Chamers: John Cena. Of course it’ll be John Cena, he’s John Cena. Honestly though, I’m not emotionally involved in either of them winning, so I can’t say I prefer either of them. I’m sure it’ll be very big and epic and all over the arena and John Cena will probably get thrown through something, off something or at something very large that would kill a mere mortal, but in the end he will level up and win by a hair (or an Attitude Adjustment).

Cody A. Springer: A lot of people are saying that The Rock wouldn’t come back just to lose. Obviously those people don’t know proper etiquette when it comes to this sort of thing. The fact of the matter is that Cena needs to win this match. Period.
Prediction: John Cena

Proper etiquette? Please. John Cena isn’t a rookie that needs to be put over. That’s just nonsense. The Rock had elevated more wrestlers in his shorter WWE career than Cena has done in his now longer WWE career.

Historically, Wrestlemania usually ends on a happy note for the live audience. Cena will be the villain in the Rock’s hometown. I’m more inclined to think that the Rock will win it if only because the WWE will want to end the event with cheers, not jeers. This has nothing to do with elevating anyone or putting anyone over. Neither Cena nor the Rock “needs” to win. Cena has been the biggest name in the WWE for years and he will still remain the biggest name even if he loses to the Rock. He can do the job, cut a promo the next night on Raw and simply move on. Or he can keep demanding for a rematch until the Rock gives in.

I see a possible interference by the miz. With the rock winning and cena going on to fued with the miz, again, with a possibility of the rock v cena 2, the rock v cena v the miz or rock v brock at mania 29

the rock will win!.. i mean isn’t it obvious? wrestlemania 28 is in miami where he’s from and him winning will set up the rock vs. brock lesnar… it would be better for the wwe to have cena win! at least he never leaves and comes back for a huge payday and to plug shitty movies! i hope brock lesnar interferes in the match and beats the hell outta both of them! if vince was thinking cash money like he usually does, cena turns heel with his dad (johnny fabulous, best manager in new england and awesome on the mic!) as his manager!…. wrestlemania just isn’t what it use to be!

I totally agree with you bah..why does rock have to put over cena? Cena has had this “so called” torch for almost 8 years.when hogan vs rock happened hogan was way past his prime..unlike the rock who in wrestling terms is in the middle of his prime right now.rock needs to beat cena..and he needs to beat him clean! No run ins no easy way out for cena.Cena losing to the people’s champion Will humanize cena and also add more layers to cena’s character in the months to come(dealing with the fact that he didn’t accomplish he dream goal..to beat rocky) rock should beat cena!

  5. Craptacular says:

According to the dessire of us, the WWE fans, The Rock should beat Cena… But I guess it is not going to happen as Cena is Vince’s favorite child… Also I remember 10 years ago when Hogan became the favorite of the crowd but it wasn’t a problem to give the victory to The Rock…

I pray to not see a Rock-Cena shakehand… if my prediction is right who knows!
