3/25 MMA News and Notes
Mar 25, 2012 - by Alex Peredo
~ UFC welterweight veteran Roan “Jucao” Carneiro (15-9) won last night in Seoul, South Korea. He submitted (Armbar) Jung Hwan Cha at 4:41 into Round 1. The bout occured at Road Fighting Championship 7: Recharged. Carneiro hadn’t competed in a year. He went 2-3 in the UFC.
~ UFC light-heavyweight veteran Goran Reljic won yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland in the main event of Strength & Honor Championship 5. Reljic TKO’d (Punches) Rogent Lloret at 3:02 of the 1st round. Reljic (10-3) has struggled with a back injury over the last few years but has won 2 straight following a UFC release that came after 3 straight decision losses.
~ Free agent lightweight Aaron Wilkinson (8-5) has signed a five-fight deal with Cage Warriors Fighting Championship. Englishman Wilkinson is best known for his stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 12,” where he served under team coach Josh Koscheck. Wilkinson was invited to the show’s live finale, but after suffering a submission loss to Cody McKenzie, he was released by the promotion. Wilkinson has since posted a 2-1 mark fighting in his native England.
~ Former WEC Lightweight Champion Gabe Ruediger (17-8) may meet UFC vet Paul Kelly (12-4) at next month’s SFL event. I say may because Ruediger will still be within a 45-day suspension (with no contact during training for 30 days) following a KO loss to Scott Catlin on March 16 in Commerce, California. The California State Athletic Commission subsequently suspended Ruediger. Super Fight League 2 takes place April 7 in Chandigarh, India.
~ Weigh-ins for next month’s “UFC on FUEL TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva” event take place Friday, April 13, at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The same venue hosts the following day’s FUEL TV-televised event, which features a light heavyweight matchup between Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva. The first fighter hits the scale at 4 p.m. CET local time.
