3/21 MMA News and Notes

~ Ratings were down for the second episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Live” on FX, and they weren’t much better for Bellator 61 on MTV2. Bellator’s March 16 broadcast averaged just 108,000 viewers. To date, MTV2 has aired 27 Bellator events, and only one – Bellator 53, which drew 103,000 viewers this past October – drew a smaller audience. Bellator 61 took place at Horseshoe Riverdome in Bossier City, Louisiana.
~ The India-based Super Fight League has secured UFC/Bellator heavyweight veteran Neil “Goliath” Grove (11-5-1). Grove lost his only UFC bout at UFC 95. Grove is 41 & he’s currently in a 1-3 skid that included a Bellator season-three tournament-finale loss to Cole Konrad.
~ Fans are invited to Wednesday’s UFC press conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The presser, which also streams online, begins at 2 p.m. ET (noon MDT local time) with doors opening a half hour earlier. The event takes place at Flames Central (219 8 Avenue SW) in downtown Calgary. UFC president Dana White and UFC-Canada head Tom Wright are scheduled to attend.
~ UFC heavyweight veterans will collide in 10 days when Strikeforce/Bellator vet Paul Buentello (29-14) goes against Darrill Schoonover (11-5) at the inaugural Worldwide Mixed Martial Arts (WMMA) event. “WMMA 1: McCorkle vs. Heden” airs on pay-per-view and the Armed Forces Network. Schoonover appeared on the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
~ A recently booked light-heavyweight fight between Igor Pokrajac (24-8 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Fabio Maldonado (18-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC), is the sixth addition to UFC on FUEL TV 3′s main card as the night’s co-headliner. UFC on FUEL TV 3 takes place May 15 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. The card is complete with 12 bouts.
