3/8/12 Impact Wrestling Recap

Impact Wrestling opens with a video package highlighting the Bischoff family saga. Garret Bischoff is then seen arriving to the Impact Zone as the camera man asks about the warning Ric Flair gave him last week. Garret says he is fine having a target on his back and it’s only getting bigger.

Ric Flair’s music hits as he comes out to the ring along with Eric Bischoff and Gunner. Bischoff grabs a microphone and says he has to deal with in front of the whole world. Bischoff says his son has pushed them so hard that he respectfully asked Sting to book a tag team match against Gunner and a partner against Garret and a partner to end this saga. Bischoff then thanks Flair for trying to protect Garret last week and doing so out of respect.

Bischoff then says he knows that his son will have problems finding a partner, however, Gunner will have no problem whatsoever. Kurt Angle’s music then hits as he comes out to the ring as Bischoff can’t believe that Angle will be teaming with Gunner. Angle says he has no problem offering his services and says that he doesn’t like Garret because he doesn’t respect his father. Angle says he listened to his father growing up and became an Olympic gold medalist. Angle promises to make Garret and his partner tap out tonight.

Sting is seen backstage putting on face paint and talking to himself in a mirror. Sting says Bobby Roode only has 10 days left as Eric Young walks in. EY tells Sting he wants to give ODB a surprise in the ring. Sting says that ODB loves gold and would love a shot at the tag team titles. Sting then says he can be her partner and books them in a match against Gail Kim & Madison Rayne for the TNA Knockouts Championship. Sting then continues to talk to himself in the mirror as we head into a commercial break.

Match 1: Eric Young & ODB vs. Madison Rayne & Gail Kim (TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship)
EY locks up with Earl Hebner to get this match started. ODB then tags herself into the match and sends Gail into the corner and hits a bronco buster. Gail fights her way back into the match as distractions from EY allow the tag team champs to double team ODB and pick up a couple of near falls. Madison then goes for a clothesline but ODB counters and takes her down with a spear. Odb then makes the hot tag to Young.

EY comes in and once again locks up with Hebner before taking both Gail and Madison around with a double airplane spin at the same time. A dizzy EY falls on Gail for a near fall but Madison breaks up the attempt. ODB comes in and takes Madison out to the floor as Gail is left alone with EY. Out on the floor, Madison takes out ODB and grabs a title and nails EY in the back with it. The force knocks him over and onto Gail as the referee counts the pin fall and we have new TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions.

After the match, ODB celebrates with the titles and she tries to revive EY. Once Young is back up, he walks over to ODB and gets down onto one knee. EY then pulls out a ring as we head into a commercial break. We return to see EY still on one knee with a microphone. EY says they have a lot of momentum on their side and says it’s the right time to ask if she will marry him. The fans rally behind the proposal as ODB takes the ring and begins to walk away. ODB then drops on to one knee and asks if EY will marry her. EY says yes and runs around the ring to celebrate the engagement.

Footage from earlier in the day is aired where a man wearing a suit named Joseph Park is looking to talk to TNA officials as security lets him in.

Bully Ray is backstage and says James Storm won’t make it to Lockdown as he gave Storm a concussion. He then tells Sting to do the right thing and walks off. We then see Austin Aries who reads an email from Sting saying that he will defending the X Division Championship against Zema Ion tonight. Aries thinks it’s a bad business decision as once he defeats Ion, he won’t have anyone to defend the title against. Aries promises to show Sting tonight what showtime is all about as we head into a commercial break.

Match 2: Zema Ion vs. Austin Aries (X Division Championship)
The bell rings as Aries and Ion go back and forth in the early part of this match. Aries showboats a bit by running around the outside of the ring and hits Ion with an elbow drop for a near fall. Ion is able to recover and takes Aries down before doing a bit of showboating himself on the floor. Aries climbs the turnbuckle and dives out onto Ion but misses and hits the guard railing.

Ion then rolls Aries into the ring for a near fall but Aries kicks out. Ion climbs the top rope and goes for a 450 splash but Aries rolls out of the way. Ion then crawls to the corner and grabs his hairspray and tries to use it on Aries but he ducks out of the way and takes it away. Aries then uses it on Ion as the referee sees it and calls for the bell to disqualify Aries. Ion celebrates his victory as Aries holds up his title and leaves the ring.

Joseph Park, who looks and sounds like Abyss, is backstage and walks up to Velvet Sky. He introduces himself as Abyss’ brother and asks if she has seen him. Velvet says she didn’t know Abyss had a brother as we head into a commercial break.

Bully Ray is in the ring and again states that he took James Storm out and that he deserves to be the number one contender. Sting’s music then hits as he makes his way to the ring while putting on more face paint. Sting says Ray can’t just make a match because he injured someone before asking Ray if he wants Bobby Roode. Ray says he does and Sting finally grants him his wish. Sting leaves the ring before turning around and saying their match would start after the break.

After a commercial we see Bobby Roode is irate backstage over the impromptu title match. Sting walks up to him and says that tonight’s match is not for the title because James Storm is still in line for a shot at Lockdown. Roode calls Sting crazy as Sting tells him to get out to the ring for his match.

Match 3: Bully Ray vs. Bobby Roode
The match starts as Ray pushes Roode down and Roode answers back with a slap in the face. Roode then boots Ray in the midsection and continues to work him over with a series of strikes. Ray fights back and picks up a near fall after hitting a side slam. Roode retreats to the floor and hangs Ray up on the ropes as he comes back into the ring. Roode picks up a near fall after hitting a neckbreaker and begins to mock Ray as Ray answers back with some hard chops.

Ray hits Roode with a series of clotheslines and picks up another near fall after slamming Roode down to the mat. Ray then misses with a big boot as Roode comes back with a spear for another near fall. Roode grabs Ray’s chain and charges at him but Ray levels him with a big boot. Ray grabs his chain but James Storm runs into the ring and chases Ray away. Storm then levels Roode with a Last Call superkick and kisses Roode’s title before placing it over his chest.

Garret Bischoff is backstage and says he is familiar with Gunner, however, he has never faced Kurt Angle. He then continues to say that he is confident in his partner and the everyone will find out before his match starts.

Matt Morgan and Crimson are in the locker room when Joseph Park walks in. He tells them he is Abyss’ brother and is looking for him. Neither of them know where he is at and he leaves the ring. Morgan and Crimson continue their conversation where Crimson blames Morgan on their losses but wants to put that behind them and defeat Robbie E. and Robbie T. tonight.

Match 4: Robbie E. & Robbie T. vs. Matt Morgan & Crimson (TNA Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match)
The bell sounds and Crimson levels Robbie E. with a clothesline before hitting him with a release suplex. Robbie crawls to the corner to tag in his partner, who locks up with Crimson and takes him down with a body slam. Crimson comes back with a jawbreaker but Robbie E. nails Crimson from behind with a clipboard.

Robbie T. and Robbie E. begin to use quick tags to work over Crimson and pick up a couple of near falls in the process. Robbie T. begins to showboat a little, which gives Crimson time to recover and he takes Robbie down before making the hot tag to Morgan. Robbie E. is also tagged in and Morgan quickly takes both of his opponents down and dumps Robbie T. out to the floor. Morgan then nails Robbie E. with the Carbon Footprint as Crimson makes a blind tag and covers Robbie to pick up the pin fall. Morgan stares down his partner as he celebrates the victory and the two argue up the ramp.

AJ Styles was interviewed earlier in the day and he says Christopher Daniels and Kazarian are former friends. He continues to say that he figured out how to handle them and they are not going to like it as we head into a commercial break.

Gunner is backstage and says Kurt Angle is a machine. Angle again says he doesn’t like Garret Bischoff and that both he and his partner are going to the hospital tonight.

A video package on the recent events surrounding AJ Styles is aired. Styles’ music hits as he makes his way to the ring. Styles talks about the past 10 years in TNA and the people he has faced and the memories that he wishes he could forget. Christopher Daniels cuts him off and says he came back to TNA to stand by his side of his friend, yet all it got him was punished and fired. Daniels says he has decided to put himself first and encouraged Kazarian to do the same thing.

Kazarian grabs the microphone and says the reason why everyone has turned his back on him is because he is gullible and trusting. Kazarian says the problem lies with Styles and needs to be cured of himself. Styles says they are the reason he is not going to associate with friends anymore and instead he will now associate with an…. “asshole” shouts Mr. Anderson.

Anderson comes out as Styles goes out to the floor and the two attack Kazarian and Daniels. The melee goes into the ring where Styles and Anderson beat down Kazarian and Daniels and clear the ring.

Garret Bischoff is seen peeking in a locker room asking his partner if he was ready as we head into a commercial break.

Gunner and Kurt Angle make their way to the ring for the main event. Garret Bischoff then comes out and Jeff Hardy is revealed to be his partner.

Match 5: Gunner & Kurt Angle vs. Garret Bischoff & Jeff Hardy
Jeremy Borash handles the formal introductions for tonight’s main event. The bell sounds and Gunner and Angle go on the attack as the referee holds Garret back. Angle then begins to work on Hardy and chokes him on the ropes before picking up a near fall. Gunner is tagged into the match and continues to work over Hardy as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see Angle is in control of Hardy and has him in a headlock before tossing Hardy out to the floor. Gunner goes out and sends Hardy into the guard rail as the referee has his hands full with Garrett. Back in the ring, Angle puts Hardy in an ankle lock but Hardy is able to make it to the ropes to break the hold.

Gunner is tagged back into the match and Hardy is able to turn things in his favor by hitting him with the Whisper in the Wind. Hardy looks for a tag but Angle baited Garret as the two look to go at it in the ringside area, however, the referee holds Garret back. Back in the ring, Gunner makes the tag to Angle but Hardy takes him down with a kick and makes the hot tag to Garret.

Garret comes in and takes Angle down with a series of clotheslines and slams him down on the mat. Garret then drops Gunner with a dropkick and hits Angle with a modified neckbreaker for a near fall, but Gunner breaks up the pin attempt. Hardy then makes a blind tag as Garret hits a double clothesline on Angle and Gunner. Hardy then hits the Swanton Bomb on Angle to pick up the pin fall.

Garret and Hardy celebrate their victory as Angle and Gunner have shocked looks on their faces. Hardy and Garret celebrate their victory as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.

– Bully Ray and Bobby Roode fought to a no contest.
