~ UFC light-heavyweight vet Ricardo Romero (11-3 MMA, 0-0 BFC) has joined the Bellator roster. Romero, 33, lost his last two bouts in the UFC, at UFC 126 & UFC 135, via brutal TKOs.
~ The UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson medical suspensions are as follows:
Benson Henderson: suspended 180 days due to possible hand and left-foot fractures
Frankie Edgar: precautionary suspension of 45 days (with no contact for 30 days)
Quinton Jackson: 180-day suspension is the result of a possible right-knee injury
Cheick Kongo: precautionary suspension of 45 days (with no contact for 30 days)
Tim Boetsch: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days for precautionary reasons
Yushin Okami: precautionary suspension of 45 days (with no contact for 30 days)
Joe Lauzon: precautionary suspension of 45 days (with no contact for 30 days)
Elji Mitsuoka: needs his nose cleared to avoid a 180-day suspension
Tiequan Zhang: precautionary suspension of 45 days (with no contact for 30 days)
~ Ronda Rousey, Meisha Tate, Kazuo Misaki, Paul Daley all underwent drug testing at this past Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey” event & tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational/drugs of abuse. The test results of a fifth fighter, Bristol Marunde, are pending. Marunde had received a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone, and the commission is waiting for the results of a test to determine the levels of the hormone in his system.
~ UFC/PRIDE lightweight veteran David Bielkheden defeated Edgar Dayan via TKO (Punches) in just 79 seconds on Sunday. The bout was part of “MMA Against Dengue 2,” held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The win broke a 3 fight losing streak for Bielkheden & his record is now 17-10.
~ Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is hurt & will not face Alexander Gustafsson (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 2. The April 14 event takes place at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe Arena. A knee injury forced Nogueira out of the matchup, and a timetable has yet to be established for his return.
