~ UFC on FUEL TV 1 peaked with a record 315,000 viewers during the night’s main event between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez. Although currently cable TV’s lowest-rated cable station (among those big enough to garner ratings information), UFC on FUEL TV 1 ranked in the top 10 (No. 9) among all ad-supported cable networks among men 18-49 rating in its timeslot. It was also the most-watched program and evening of prime-time programming in FUEL TV history.
~ UFC lightweight veteran John Gunderson defeated fellow UFC veteran Justin Buchholz on Thursday in Las Vegas via submission (Kimura) at 2:34 into the 3rd round. The win netted “Guns” the inaugural Superior Cage Combat Lightweight title. Gunderson improved to 33-12, he went 1-2 in the UFC in 2010. Buchholz went 1-4 in the UFC & his record drops to 12-7.
~ UFC/PRIDE/DREAM welterweight veteran Akihiro Gono lost again on Saturday at the Tokyo Dome City Hall. He was beaten by DREAM lightweight vet Daisuke Nakamura (25-13) via unanimous decision at DEEP – 57 Impact. Gono’s record falls to 32-17. He went 1-2 over a 3 year UFC tenure.
~ UFC 65 heavyweight veteran Sherman “The Tank” Pendergarst (11-18) continued his winless streak on Saturday in Fargo, North Dakota. His bout with Bruce Nelson was declared a No-Contest after an accidental strike to Pendergarst’s groin in the 1st round. The bout was held at Cage Fighting Xtreme/ Crowbar MMA – Winter Brawl. This No-Contest stopped Pendergarst’s current 9 fight losing streak. He’s 3-14 since losing at UFC 65.
~ Official fighter weigh-ins for next month’s “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey” event take place Friday, March 2, at Hall C at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. As with past Zuffa events, the weigh-ins are being held in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival. Seating begins at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT), and the first fighter is on the scale at 5 p.m. ET.
