~ Former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie “C-4″ Varner competed last night in Knoxville, Tennessee in the main event of Xtreme Fighting Championships 16: High Stakes. He defeated UFC/DREAM veteran Drew “Night Rider” Fickett via submission (Punches) in just 40 seconds. Varner improved to 19-6-1 & has gone 3-1 since his WEC release. Fickett (41-17) has lost 4 straight.
~ Ring of Combat 39 occurred last night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. UFC welterweight veteran Pete Sell defeated Mitch Whitesel (17-21) via unanimous decision. Sell (10-6) appeared on the 4th season of The Ultimate Fighter & holds a UFC record of 2-5.
~ FUEL TV officials recently announced that they are offering a free-preview week from Feb. 13 to Feb. 19, which means even non-subscribers can tune in to watch the Feb. 15 event. FUEL TV officials confirmed that multiple cable carriers – including AT&T U-Verse, Charter, Comcast, Cox and Suddenlink – will offer the preview. Interested viewers can visit fuel.tv/getfueltv beginning Feb. 13 to find out if their service provider is participating in the preview.
~ The Ultimate Fighter 9 participant Dean Amasinger (9-5) will fight WEC/UFC lightweight veteran Maciej Jewtuszko (8-2) at Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 18: Unfinished Sympathy. The February 25 event occurs in Plock, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. Both men suffered losses in their last bout.
~ Former Shooto world champion Alexandre Franca Nogueira (13-6-2) returns from a 28 month layoff on March 24 when he competes in Brazil. He faces Diego Wilson (5-2) at Aecio Tocantins Gymnasium in the Mato Grossan capital of Cuiaba for Duelo de Titas. Nogueira introduced us to Jose Aldo when Aldo defeated him via 2nd round TKO at WEC 34.
