2/9/12 Impact Wrestling Recap

Feb 10, 2012 - by Jason Graening

Footage of the Impact Wrestling invasion is aired and is tied into Star Wars by featuring the father and son rivalry between Eric and Garett Bischoff. We then head into the Wembley Arena in London, England, where Bully Ray’s music hits.

Bully Ray comes out to the ring and says the only person he wants to talk to is his close personal friend, Bobby Roode. As Roode makes his way towards the ring, Ray cuts him off in the entrance and wants to know where he was last week in his match against James Storm. Ray continues by saying he is the reason that Roode is still the champion as he has watched his back for the past two months. Roode tells Ray to calm down and says Ray’s problem should be with Sting, not him.

Sting’s music then cuts them off as he walks down to the ring with a cricket bat. Sting tells the two that he will be the special enforcer in the four way match at Against All Odds. As for tonight, the two better get along as they will be teaming up to go against James Storm and the Insane Icon, Sting himself. Sting then leaves the ring as Roode and Ray continue to argue in the ring. We then see Garett Bischoff and Hulk Hogan walking in the backstage area as we head into a commercial break.

A video package recapping the recent events between AJ Styles, Kazarian and Christopher Daniels. This brings us into the first match of the night.

Match 1: Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles
Kazarian reluctantly joins Daniels for this match. The bell sounds as the two go back and forth for a few moments before Daniels drops Styles with a punch to the jaw. Styles recovers and takes Daniels down with a dropkick that sends Daniels out to the floor. Styles then dives over the ropes and takes Daniels out on the floor. Back in the ring, Daniels comes back and takes Styles down and pulls out a foreign object, but the referee catches on and Daniels tosses it out to Kazarian. Daniels continues to wear down Styles and gets a two count after landing a knee drop.

Daniels then goes for the Angel’s Wings but Styles counters and takes him down with an enziguri. Daniels crawls over the Kazarian and asks for the brass knuckles, but Styles gets up and takes Daniels down. Styles then hits Daniels with a flying forearm before connecting with a Pele kick. Daniels is able to get the knuckles from a reluctant Kazarian before Styles sets up for a powerbomb, but Daniels nails him in the head with the knuckles and knocks him down. Daniels then makes the cover to pick up the pin fall.

Eric Bischoff is backstage with Gunner and tells him that he wants to take out Hulk Hogan one kneecap at a time. Gunner tells him not to worry as they shake hands and we head into a commercial break.

Magnus and Samoa Joe make their way to the ring and Magnus talks about how great it is to perform in front of the UK, and that he is proud to say that he has come home tonight. Magnus says he brought his tag team partner with him as the two of them get a loud ovation. Magnus says two months ago they were chosen at random to team together, and although nobody thought it would work, they have proved that theory wrong.

Magnus then goes on to say the only reason Matt Morgan and Crimson are together is because they are too afraid to go against one another. He says neither he nor Joe fear anyone and they will go on to become the TNA Tag Team Champions at Against All Odds. Matt Morgan and Crimson come down to the ring and says the talking is done as the two sides come to blows. Morgan and Crimson take down their challengers and are about to double team Magnus before Joe drags him out of the ring. The announce team then hype the rest of tonight’s card as we head into a commercial break.

Match 2: Doug Williams vs. Alex Shelley vs. Austin Aries

Aries regains control of the match and picks up a two count over Williams, however, Williams is able to come back with a series of European uppercuts.

Shelley and Williams then try for a double team move but Aries is able to counter it before slamming Shelley down to the mat. Aries then showboats for a moment before missing with his signature elbow drop. Williams then goes for the Rolling Chaos on Shelley but Aries breaks up the pin attempt with a low kick on Williams. Shelley then hits Sliced Bread #2 on Aries to pick up the pin fall over the X Division Champion.

Hulk Hogan is giving a pep talk to Garett Bischoff backstage as Sting walks up and gives Hogan a hug. Hogan thanks Sting for making him be himself once again and says he is proud of what he has been doing with the company. Hogan has one problem, though, and says Sting has a target on his back and says they are coming for him. Hogan then says if Sting ever needs anything, Sting can count on him. Hogan then makes the cameras leave as they continue talking.

Fans at the live UK events are interviewed before we see footage of Tara and Gail Kim fighting on the street as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the show to see the full video footage of the brawl between Tara and Gail Kim. Tara is seen taking some footage around the arena where Gail attacks her from behind. The two brawl in an empty hallway and Gail takes her out and leaves her lying on the ground.

A video package of Hulk Hogan’s speech from last week is aired. Hogan’s music then hits as he makes his way to the ring with Garett Bischoff. Hogan plays to the crowd for a moment and gets a few cheap pops and asks the fans to give Garett Bischoff everything that they have given to him. Hogan talks about his history with Garett and talks about how all Garett wanted was a chance but his father always stood in the way.

Eric Bischoff’s music cuts them off as he makes his way to the ring with Gunner. Bischoff comes out and asks Hogan who he thinks he is and what gives him the right to interfere in his family business. Hogan says this is about Bischoff’s son and his future, but Bischoff fires back and tells Hogan to ride off into the sunset and let him take care of his own business. Hogan says not only does he have the right, but he has the Hogan stroke and Sting has allowed him to book a match between Garett Bischoff and Gunner.

Before Hogan can say anything else, Gunner then begins to shove Garett as Bischoff nails Hogan with a low blow. Hogan recovers and drops Bischoff with a right before he tosses Gunner out to the floor by his hair. Hogan and Garett then pick up Bischoff as Garett sizes his father up and drops him with a right fist. Gunner and Bischoff then make their way back up the ramp as Hogan and Garett celebrate in the ring.

We are treated to a trailer for Star Wars: Episode I in 3D before heading to the locker room where Bobby Roode and Bully Ray are arguing with each other. Ray talks about their tag team accomplishments before offering a hand shake. Roode says brothers don’t shake hands, brothers hug. The two then embrace as Ray whispers “three days” in Roode’s ear.

Hulk Hogan and Garett Bischoff are backstage talking and Hogan says they are going to put an end to Eric Bischoff so he can have a future in this business. Hogan says he will be in Garett’s corner so his dad can’t interfere.

Match 3: Mickie James vs. Velvet Sky
The match starts and the two go back and forth with a series of grappling moves in the opening moments. The two then shake hands but Mickie refuses to let go and sends her flying into the turnbuckle. Match 4: Bully Ray & Bobby Roode vs. James Storm & Sting
Jeremy Borash handles the formal introductions for tonight’s main event. The bell sounds as the UK fans begin a “you’re a legend!” chant towards Sting. Roode and Sting finally lock up and Roode gives Sting a few chops in the corner but they have little effect on Sting. Sting gives Roode a back body drop and follows with a clothesline before putting the champion in a Scorpion Death Lock, however, Ray comes in and breaks it up. Storm comes in to help his partner and the two clear the ring as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match where Ray is in the ring and wants to get his hands on Storm. Sting tags in his partner and Storm takes Ray down and locks in an arm bar. Storm again tags Sting into the match, who continues to work over Ray’s arm and even bites his forehead. Storm is tagged back in and Roode catches him with a knee from the apron to turn the tide of the match. Ray begins to focus on Storm’s injured ribs before tagging Roode into the match.

Roode continues to work on Storm’s midsection before picking up a near fall. Roode turns the match back over to Ray, who locks Storm in a bear hug. Storm fights his way out of it only to be taken down with a boot to the face. Ray then grabs his chain and he tells the referee that he will do whatever he wants but Storm is able to counter Ray’s attack with a Russian leg sweep. Storm then crawls to his corner to tags Sting into the match.

Sting comes and takes Ray and Roode down with a series of clotheslines before hitting them both with Stinger Splashes in opposite corners of the ring. Sting finally misses one on Roode but ends up sending him crashing to the canvas with a power slam from the middle rope. Sting then hits both Roode and Ray with another Stinger Splash and Storm kicks Roode in the back of the head as he fall face first between Ray’s legs.

Roode comes back, though, and takes Sting down with a spinebuster for a near fall. Roode then goes for a fisherman’s suplex but Sting counters and takes Roode down with a Scorpion Death Drop. Sting then locks Roode in the Scorpion Death Lock as Ray sneaks in from the other side with the TNA World Championship. Instead of using it, though, he tells Roode “see you in three days, champ,” before laying the title on the mat and leaving the ring. Roode then taps out to the Scorpion Death Lock to end the match.
