~ Heavyweight Joey Beltran (13-7) has been released by the UFC after being knocked out in the first round by Strikeforce import Lavar Johnson at UFC on Fox 2 to fall to 1-4 in his last five fights.
~ WEC/UFC/DREAM bantamweight veteran Joseph Benavidez scored a $5,000 award by the UFC in the “most creative” category. For the purpose of the UFC’s Twitter bonuses, all UFC and Strikeforce fighters are divided into four separate categories based on the number of followers they have at the beginning of the scoring period. Benavidez fights next month.
~ In a few weeks, the Nevada State Athletic Commission is opening the floor to ideas on how to better regulate MMA. The commission gave notice of a workshop designed to “to solicit comments from interested persons on any matter related to contests or exhibitions of unarmed combat, or any other matter within the jurisdiction of the NSAC.” The meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Grant Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas, Nevada.
~ A heavyweight matchup featuring ProElite veteran Andreas Kraniotakes (12-5) against Dmitry Poberezhets (10-4-1) headlines this month’s Cage Warriors 46 event in Kiev, Ukraine. Cage Warriors 46 marks the third event for the promotion in a 13-day span that begins with this weekend’s Cage Warriors Fight Night 3 event
~ UFC lightweight veteran Curt Warburton (8-3) will compete in Plock, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland at Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 18: Unfinished Sympathy. “The War” goes against Artur Sowinski (12-5) on the February 25 event. Warburton went 1-2 during his 8 month tenure with the UFC.
