~ The Ultimate Fighter 5 lightweight cast member Brian Geraghty improved to 25-17-1 with a title victory on Friday in Dubuque, Iowa. Geraghty defeated Beau Laughridge (3-2) via a 5-round split decision. The bout was the co-main event of Pinnacle Combat MMA 9.
~ The Maximum Fighting Championship has released UFC veterans Antonio McKee (27-4-2) & Brian Cobb (19-7) from their contracts with the organization. McKee and Cobb were both slated to compete for the MFC lightweight title at MFC 32: Bitter Rivals on Jan. 27, but both fighters came in over the contract weight at the official weigh-in – defending champ McKee by seven pounds and challenger Cobb by one-half pound. Mckee defeated Cobb via unanimous decision.
~ Illinois does not disclosed fight purses, so salaries/payroll will not be be available for this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 2 event. All we know is that Joey Beltran (KO), Charles Oliveira (Sub), Evan Dunham & Nik Lentz each earned $65,000 in Fight Night Bonuses.
~ Legacy Fighting Championships middleweight titleholder Andrew Craig (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is now a member of the UFC roster. Craig, who’s also fought for Bellator, is 6-0 with three stoppages in his 19-month pro career. It only took 2 years to reach the UFC. Most recently, he scored a unanimous-decision victory over WEC vet Eric Schambari in a Legacy title fight.
~ Lightweight Eiji Mitsuoka (18-7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meets Takanori Gomi (32-8 MMA, 1-3 UFC) on the UFC 144 preliminary card. UFC 144 takes place Feb. 25 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The 36-year-old Mitsuoka, aveteran of Japanese promotions DREAM, DEEP, Sengoku, holds career victories over UFC vets Gerald Strebendt, Gleison Tibau and Anthony Macias.
