2/1 WWE NXT Recap
Feb 2, 2012 - by Steven Matthews
The WWE Intro merges into the NXT Intro as Josh Mathews welcomes us to the show. Titus O’Neil makes his way to the ring, wearing a suit as Josh Mathews and William Regal once again welcome us to the show and we see highlights of O’Neil’s match with Percy Watson last week and the aftermath. O’Neil mocks the crowd, telling them that he knows they aren’t the smartest people around before turning his attention to what happened last week. O’Neil says that Alex Riley stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and he has no right interfering in O’Neil’s attempt to teach Percy Watson a lesson. O’Neil calls Riley out to confront him face to face like a man which brings out Darren Young instead. Young says that he’d rather be anywhere but Omaha, Nebraska which draws some boos. Young then tells O’Neil that he has to worry about Darren Young instead of anyone else as he approaches the ring. Young says that they have unfinished business and O’Neil says that the last time they faced each other, he beat Young in a No Disqualification match. O’Neil says that the only unfinished business Young has is between him and his barber. Young says that he can’t stand O’Neil and never has but has grown to respect him over the past two weeks, since he’s finally realized that he doesn’t need the fans to make it. Young extends a hand as O’Neil says he doesn’t care if the fans respect him and doesn’t care if Young does. O’Neil turns his back but then shakes Young’s hand saying that at least he’s seen the light and the two share a laugh. Percy Watson is out next and Watson says that O’Neil exploded when he compared him to Darren Young and now they’re best friends. Watson says that he should have listened to Alex Riley when he told him that O’Neil would always be one of the good guys but he was wrong and now the gloves are off. O’Neil says that Watson is doing it again, siding with the stupid fans. Watson says the only one who’s stupid is O’Neil before saying Young as well. Young says that Watson can talk so much from the outside but dares him to step into the ring. O’Neil tells Young that Watson is soft and week like the fans and that you have to ask him nicely. O’Neil sarcastically asks Watson to step into the ring but before he can answer, Alex Riley makes his way to ringside. Riley shakes hands with Watson and takes the microphone. O’Neil calls the two ‘Ebony and Ivory’ as Riley tells him to save his breath and save the attention span of the fans by shutting up. Riley and Watson step into the ring and Riley says he has a problem with what O’Neil did last week. Riley says that O’Neil won fair and square and instead of simply leaving, he attacked his former friend while he was down. Riley says that he knows what it’s like to help someone get to the top of the company and get blamed when it all comes crashing down on them. Riley says that he did to O’Neil what he did to his former partner and beat the hell out of him. Riley says that unless things change and change quick, he would do the same thing to O’Neil again and if he has a problem with it, he could say it to his face. O’Neil and Young turn around and quickly hit cheap shots on Riley and Watson but their momentum is short lives. Riley hammers off right hands and tosses O’Neil through the ropes and to the outside. Watson throws Young’s face off the top turnbuckle and clotheslines him over the top rope. O’Neil and Young back off and Matt Striker appears on the stage. Striker says that he doesn’t know what’s gotten into O’Neil but he has to give the people what they want. Striker makes the main event for the evening with Titus O’Neil teaming with Darren Young to face Percy Watson and Alex Riley. William Regal says nothing solves a problem like a good punch to the face before Josh Mathews hypes what’s next as Trent Barreta goes one on one with Tyson Kidd after a quick break.
We’re back and Trent Barreta makes his way to the ring for our opening contest. Tyson Kidd is out next and Kidd high fives some of the fans on the way down before flipping into the ring and posing on the ropes, clapping his hands to the fans. The bell rings and Kidd applies a waistlock but Barreta quickly frees himself. The two lock hands and Kidd tries to take Barreta down and he does, covering Barreta twice but both times Barreta bridges out. Barreta takes Kidd on his back from his and Kidd bridges out of a pin attempt. Kidd puts Barreta down again and tries to jump on his midsection but Barreta puts the knees up and reverses the momentum, coming up and hitting a nice hurricanrana. Barreta hits an arm drag and locks in an armbar as Kidd gets to his feet. Kidd flips himself on the top rope and hits an arm drag on Barreta, sending him to the outside. Kidd gets up and hits a suicide dive through the ropes and both men’s heads collide into the barricade. Baretta is down while Kidd is rolling on the floor in pain. The referee begins a ten count while a replay is shown. Both men barely make it back into the ring as Kidd is still showing effects of the move. Barreta hits a chop and a punch before Kidd hits a kick to the thigh and a spin kick. Barreta comes back with an enzuguri and an elbow avalanche but takes another spin kick, this time to the head. Kidd gets a two and then picks Barreta up, looking for a suplex. Barreta counters out and heads to a corner. Kidd charges but runs into the feet of Barreta, which follow Kidd down and stomps on him. Barreta measures Kidd and hits him with a running knee strike to the jaw for a nearfall. Kidd gets up and heads to the ropes, nailing Barreta with a boot that sends him over the top rope. Kidd nails Barreta with a big kick to the face and slowly makes his way to the top rope, with his back to the ring. Barreta gets up and trips Kidd as he follows him up. Kidd fires off right hands which separate the two and Kidd resets himself on the ropes. Barreta runs up and hits a hurricanrana from the top but Kidd hangs on and rolls through, picking up the three and the win. Kidd celebrates the win posing for the fans and pointing at Barreta in a sign of respect as we take another break.
We’re back and Heath Slater hits the ringside area. Slater walks to the ring and says he didn’t want to come back to this ‘D list’ show but the only reason he came back to NXT was to show everyone what happened last week. We see highlights of Slater picking up a win last week as Regal says that he takes offense to Slater calling this a ‘D list’ show and will punch him in the mouth if he says it again. The pin is shown over and over again, non stop as Slater tells the fans to watch it again as Derrick Bateman makes his way out. Bateman extends a hand to Slater and Slater refuses, saying he knows that Bateman wants to steal his spotlight. Slater says that if he wants to show the crowd how he beat Trent Barreta over and over again he will. Bateman congratulates Slater on the big win but says that this isn’t the Slater family reunion, this is NXT and he guarantees that nobody showed up to watch that replay. Bateman says that The Undertaker’s undefeated streak is impressive but Slater’s losing streak is the stuff that legends are made of. Slater calls Bateman a comedian and calls Maxine a bimbo before running down his accolades, competing at WrestleMania, main eventing Summerslam and being a three time WWE Tag Team Champion. Slater says that the WWE Universe has yet to see the damage he can cause and Bateman says that he happened to compile a list of the damage Slater has caused and he calls it Heath Slater’s Greatest Hits. Bateman says by ‘hits’ he means ‘misses’ and directs everyone’s attention to the TitanTron. Bateman shows a picture of Gabriel pinning Slater after a 450 Splash with ‘Loser’ written in red letters and then shows another, saying that’s a 900 Splash. Bateman saves the best of last, showing a picture of Hornswoggle defeating Slater in an over the top rope challenge. Slater pust his microphone down and shoves Bateman, who shoves him back. Slater goes after Bateman but can’t get any offense in as Bateman nails a few right hands and hits a beautiful dropkick sendning Slater to the floor. Bateman mocks Slater by playing an air guitar as Maxine heads to the ring for our next match. Maxine stares at Slater as he heads to the back. Maxine steps into the ring and Bateman kisses her hand. The two share a kiss before Bateman leaves and Maxine faces Alicia Fox after a quick break.
We’re back and Alicia Fox quickly makes her way to the ring for this match. We are reminded yet again that Fox was Maxine’s pro on Season 3 of NXT and we are reminded of what happened between the two several weeks ago. The bell rings and they lock up with Maxine taking advantage and taking Fox down. Maxine takes part of Fox’s attire and shoves it in her face as Johnny Curtis heads to the ring. Curtis distracts Maxine, asking why she won’t return his calls and that he wants to start over. Fox comes from behind and rolls Maxine up for the three. Curtis has a sneaky smirk on his face and heads to the back as Maxine is stunned before leaving the ring and going after him.
A graphic airs hyping the main event as Titus O’Neil and Darren Young team up to face Percy Watson and Alex Riley and that match is next after a break.
We’re back and Josh Mathews reminds us that the Road to WrestleMania began on Sunday and he takes us to a video package hyping the match between John Cena and The Rock at WrestleMania 28.
William Regal and Josh Mathews briefly discuss the main event of WrestleMania 28 as Maxine and Derrick Bateman are backstage looking for Johnny Curtis. Maxine tells Bateman to go one way and she goes another. Justin Gabriel and Kaitlyn are talking and Gabriel leaves. Kaitlyn says that it’s such a shock that Maxine’s looking for a reason to talk with Curtis. Maxine tells her to mind her business and the two go back and forth. Kaitlyn starts to leave and Maxine accuses her of having a thing for Bateman. Kaitlyn calls her an idiot and leaves as Maxine says Bateman like real women and she leaves. Johnny Curtis then peers out of a door and looks in both directions with a small smile on his face.
Alex Riley’s music hits as he and Percy Watson hit the ring for the main event of the evening. Watson and Riley play to the fans as Titus O’Neil comes out with Darren Young as their opponents. Young and Watson start things off and its starts as a feeling out process with Young getting a quick cover off a shoulder block. Young applies a headlock and turns it into a cravatte. Watson gets to his feet and Young changes it into a headlock again as he’s sent off the ropes. Young again takes Watson down with a shoulder block but keeps going. Watson catches Young off guard with a modified butterfly suplex and Young rolls out of the ring and to the outside. Young is holding his head and Watson nails him with a plancha to the floor. Watson gets to his feet and stomps on Young as we take our last break of the evening.
We’re back and Watson nails Young with a dropkick which again knocks Young to the floor. Watson heads to the apron and pulls Young up but Young takes advantage and hits Watson with a belly to back suplex, dropkicking Watson back first across the ring apron. Young takes time to taunt Watson and heads in, covering Watson for a nearfall. Young throws Watson face first into O’Neil boot and tags him in. O’Neil steps in and is in complete control, guillotining Watson across the top rope for a near fall. O’Neil applies a neck grip on Watson, who struggles to his feet. Watson tries to fight out but O’Neil lifts him up and rams him into his corner. O’Neil relentlessly stomps on Watson before tagging Young. Young drops off the apron and pulls Watson partially out of the ring, dropping a forearm to Waston’s chest. Young hits a neckbreaker on Watson for a quick count twice and drives his knee into the back of Watson, staring at Riley. Young rips at the face of Watson and Watson gives another effort, ramming Young into the corner and throwing elbows. Young trips up Watson and tags in Watson, who keeps control with a big scoop slam. O’Neil gets a two and applies a sleeper as Watson again tries to break free. O’Neil breaks it on his own and lifts Watson up ramming him into the corner. O’Neil takes a shot at him and lifts Watson onto the ropes. Watson hits a kick to the chest of O’Neil which staggers him and hits another which drops him. Watson falls off the ropes and both men head to their corners. Young tags in but so does Riley. Riley hits a big running forearm to Young follows by a clothesline. Riley keeps the offense going with a beautiful spinebuster and a implant DDT. Riley goes for the cover but O’Neil breaks it up at two. Watson steps back in and throws O’Neil to the outside. O’Neil takes advantage though, throwing Watson back first into the ring apron. O’Neil gets on the apron quickly and Young applies a side headlock. Riley whips Young off the ropes and O’Neil tags himself in. Young kicks Riley in the face but runs into a flapjack. O’Neil hammers Riley from behind and hits the Sky High Powerbomb for the three count. O’Neil and Young rolls out of the ring and celebrate the win. Young and O’Neil high five each other as highlights of the match air. O’Neil and Young continue to celebrate the win as Watson checks on Riley and the show comes to a close.
