~ UFC welterweight veteran Johnny “The Hater Hurter” Rees dropped his record to 12-5 with a loss on Sunday in Plains, Pennsylvania. In the main event, he was submitted (Triangle Choke) by Chris Davis at 3:02 into the 2nd round. The bout was held at Pure MMA’s 1st ever show, “The Beginning.” Rees has now lost 3 straight. He suffered back-to-back losses in the UFC in 2008.
~ On Sunday, UFC lightweight veteran Naoyuki Kotani (25-10-7) defeated Daisuke Hanazawa via TKO (Punches) at 4:03 into the 2nd round. The bout headlined the 17th anniversary for the Rings promotion, held in Tokyo, Japan. Kotani lost both his 2007 UFC bouts to Thiago Tavares & Dennis Siver, respectively.
~ UFC officials announced that Canadian Mitch Gagnon (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is unable to cross into the U.S. for a fight with Johnny Bedford (18-9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), forcing the promotion to scrap the booking at UFC on FOX 2. The card takes place Saturday at Chicago’s United Center with 10 bouts. A three-bout main card airs live on FOX.
~ London, England-based promotion Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has confirmed their 1st event of the year which takes place Feb. 11 in Beirut, Lebanon. The show, which kicks off the organization’s 2012 schedule, will feature two opening-round matchups from the organization’s eight-man middleweight tournament.
~ The “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey” weigh-ins take place March 2 at Hall C in the Greater Columbus Convention Center beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT). The following day’s Showtime- and Showtime Extreme-televised event takes place at nearby Nationwide Arena. The card will coincide with the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio.
