~ The Ultimate Fighter 13 welterweight participant Javier Torres was defeated by Dennis Fonseca via unanimous decision on Saturday in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bout occurred at Jungle Fight 36. It was the first loss of Torres’ (3-1) career. Torres was on Team Junior dos Santos.
~ WEC bantamweight veteran Danny “The Gremlin” Martinez improved to 15-4 with a TKO (Punches) win over Nick Boyd on Saturday in Valley Center, California. The finish came at 1:49 into Round 1 & occurred at Xplode Fight Series- Brutal Conduct. Martinez can compete at flyweight (125lbs), bantamweight (135lbs), & featherweight (145lbs). Martinez has a loss to Joseph Benavidez at WEC 37 via decision.
~ UFC middleweight veteran Dave Branch improved to 2-0 since his UFC release last March with a unanimous decision win over Dominique Steele. The bout was the co-main event of the inaugural show by Pure MMA titled “The Beginning”. It was held in Plains, Pennsylvania on Sunday. Branch (10-2) went 2-2 during his 8-month tenure with the UFC.
~ Brazilian featherweight Junior Assuncao (13-5) has announced his release from the UFC. He suffered a decision loss to Ross Pearson at UFC 141 on December 30. The 30-year-old went 2-3 over two stints inside the UFC. He’s 7-1 in his last 8 bouts.
~ Welterweight Dan Stittgen (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet fellow newcomer Stephen Thompson (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in 10 days on the UFC 143 event’s preliminary card. UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Preliminary fights air on FX.
