~ Justin Salas (9-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a standout high school wrestling career and Division I college wrestler, is another addition to the UFC lightweight roster. Salas made his pro MMA debut in 2006. He’s currently riding a five-fight win streak, which included recent decision wins over UFC vet Rob Emerson and Bellator fighter Joe Ellenberger.
~ Weigh-ins for this month’s “UFC on FOX 2″ event take place Friday at The Chicago Theater. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones hosts a special Q&A session for UFC Fight Club members prior to the weigh-ins. Doors to the festivities open to members of the UFC Fight Club, the promotion’s official fan club, at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT local time). Jones hits the stage for the Q&A at 3 p.m. ET. The Q&A session is limited to UFC Fight Club members, the general public is invited to the weigh-in ceremony. Doors open to the public at 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT local time), and the first fighter hits the scale at 5 p.m. ET.
~ Oft-criticized referee Steve Mazzagatti has been assigned to oversee the UFC 143 main event interim welterweight title fight between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit. Judging the headliner is Patricia Morse-Jarman, Junichiro Kamijo and Cecil Peoples.
~ A middleweight bout between Buddy Roberts (11-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Sean Loeffler (25-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is signed for the preliminary portion of the company’s 1st event on Fuel TV. UFC on FUEL TV 1 takes place Feb. 15 at Omaha Civic Auditorium in Nebraska.
~ Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) announced that the Score Fighting Series (SFS) will be returning to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for another night of MMA action on Friday, March 16th at the Hamilton Place Theatre. A match-up between UFC/WEC/DREAM veteran John Alessio (33-14) and WEC Veteran Ryan Healy (19-9-1) has been confirmed for the card.
