In 1989, the first WWF Royal Rumble PPV (the second overall) was held in Houston, Texas

– Jim Duggan & The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) defeat Dino Bravo & The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques & Raymond) in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match
– Rockin Robin defeats Judy Martin to retain the WWF Womens Title
– King Haku defeats Harley Race
– Big John Studd wins the Royal Rumble, last eliminating Ted DiBiase. The Warlord sets the dubious record of shortest time in a Rumble match at 2 seconds. The record would go unbeated for 20 years

In 2006, TNA Final Resolution was held in Orlando, Florida

– AJ Styles defeats Hiroshi Tanahashi
– Sean Waltman defeats Raven in a Raven’s Rules Match to banish Raven from TNA. Larry Zbyszko (not the official referee) made the 3 count, ignoring Raven’s foot on the ropes
– America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) defeat Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) to retain the NWA Tag Team Titles
– Samoa Joe defeats Christopher Daniels by forfeit (AJ Styles threw in the towel) to retain the TNA X-Division Title
– Sting & Christian Cage defeat Jeff Jarrett & Monty Brown

Title Changes

1997 – Yoshinari Ogawa defeats Tsuyoshi Kikuchi to win the AJPW Junior Heavyweight Title

1998 – on Thunder, Rey Misterio Jr defeats Juventud Guerrera to win the WCW Cruiserweight Title

2008 – BxB Hulk & Shingo Takagi defeat Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles

Happy birthday to former AJPW and WWF Tag Team Champion Bull Buchanan (44), one-time WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly (25), one-time Shimmer Tag Team Champion Nicole Matthews (25), two-time Mexican National Lightweight Champion Estrella Blanca (74) and, to correct yesterday’s column, today is the birthday of former WWF/E personality Shane McMahon (42)

Also, today would have been the birthday of WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Graham (82)
