~ Former WEC Lightweight Champion Hermes Franca (21-11) on Friday was sentenced to 42 months in prison for sexually abusing an underage female student in a jiu-jitsu academy where he once taught. Franca, 37, also was sentenced to four-and-a-half years of post-prison supervision, and he must register as a sex offender. After initially pleading not guilty to seven counts of sex abuse in the first degree and two counts of unlawful sexual penetration in the second degree, Franca pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful penetration and one count of first-degree sexual abuse on Wednesday in a Clackamas County, Ore. courtroom. The onetime UFC lightweight title challenger turned himself into the Clackamas County Jail this past May.

~ Lightweight Cody McKenzie (12-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has been forced off the preliminary card of UFC on FOX 2 with an undisclosed injury. His opponent Michael Johnson (9-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is remaining on the card, which occurs January 28, in Chicago, Illinois.
~ A heavyweight bout between TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson (16-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and the returning Strikeforce veteran Fabricio Werdum (14-5-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has been slotted as the co-main event of UFC 143. UFC 143 takes place on the eve of the NFL’s Super Bowl, Feb. 4, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
~ UFC/DREAM middleweight veteran Gerald “Hurricane” Harris (19-4) has signed with Houston-based promotion Legacy Fighting Championship. Harris is a former IFL fighter who competed on “The Ultimate Fighter 7,” & went 3-1 in official UFC contests. He also fought for the International Fight League.
